Timeline of Important Events

• Timeline of Important Events
• 2030-1640 B.C. The Theban King Nebhepetre
  Mentuhotep II reunites Upper and Lower Egypt,
  made the capital at the Thebes uniting the
  people as one into the Middle Kingdom.
• 19811802 B.C. (Dynasty 12) - Amenemhat I,
  founder of Dynasty 12, moves the capital from
  Thebes to Itj-tawy in the north. The architecture
  and sculpture of this dynasty show clear links
  with the artistic traditions of the late Old
  Kingdom, while creating powerful and distinctive
  new artistic forms.

Cities

• This picture shows the major cities. They are
  around the Nile River because people need water
  and crops that only could be gotten there. The
  other parts of land are deserts.

Job Specialization

• The fertile soil, the farmers were able to grow
  different types of plants. For example, wheat and
  cotton. In the second picture it explains how
  noblemen worked together to bring cattle to
  royalty.

Social Classes

• Some low class Egyptians would make bread for a
  living. Others would make things out of clay and
  farm around the Nile river. To serve high class
  Egyptians(pharaohs, scribes).

Complex Religion

• Egyptians believed in many gods and goddesses
  (polytheism). Each god or goddess were thought to
  help in a certain way. Like maintaining peace and
  harmony across their land. They believed that if
  they didnt worship the gods their life wont run
  smoothly.
• And this goddess is Ossis whose husband was
  Osiris which was killed by his jealous brother.

Organized Government

• The most powerful person in Egypt was pharaoh.
  Pharaohs were the political and religious leader
  of the Egyptian people.
• If the pharaoh won the battle, the conquered
  people had to recognize the Egyptian pharaoh as
  their ruler and offer him the finest and most
  valuable goods for their lands.

Writing

• One of the secrets of Ancient Egypts writing is
  the Rosetta Stone. It was a black flat stone that
  included three forms of writing (hieroglyphics,
  demotic, and Greek).

Art and Architecture

• As the years went by Egyptians found a way to
  work together constructing clay bricks to build
  pyramids etc.

Public Works

• Egyptians in Ancient Egypt, worked together
  to build mud bricks to make pyramids like the one
  you see to the left.
