  • At the end of this course, it is expected that
    you will be able to
  • Describe the key attributes of instructional
    design and development models and strategies
  • Develop a detailed instructional development
    model and work plan (all steps and rationale for
    each step), based in the literature on
    Instructional Development Models, that can be
    adapted to support the development of any type of
    instruction
  • Describe the instructional design research
    paradigms and questions currently being
    investigated in our field
  • Critique the contribution of instructional design
    and development research papers.

First major assignment
  • Create a database of instructional design
    theories and models
  • You will create a database of instructional
    design theories and models that contains at least
    10 records that detail the theories and models on
    at least 10 attributes
  • The class will collaborate on the database design
    so that the data can be shared.
  • Upon completion you will run at least two unique
    queries in the database and present to the class
    a comparison of the theories based on these
    queries.

Second major assignment
  • Create a comprehensive instructional development
    model and work plan
  • You will create an instructional development
    model and accompanying work plan that describes
    and provides a comprehensive and complete
    framework for developing instruction.
  • The model should have a graphic representation
    and brief (2-3 page) narrative describing how it
    works that provides evidence (from research and
    practice literature) for each major component of
    the model,
  • The work plan must detail major phases to develop
    instruction, tasks for each phase, estimated time
    lines/start/stop relationships for each
    phase/timeline, deliverables for each phase/task,
    rationale for each phase/task, skills required
    (e.g., technical, management, design, graphics,
    media, etc) to complete each task, evaluation
    criteria for completing each phase/task (e.g.
    quality assurance and sign off activities) and a
    reference to the literature that suggests the
    need for phase/task.

  • It is expected that you will be present,

    issues.
  • It is expected that you will be prepared to
    participate and that your comments in class will
    be critical and constructive.
  • It is expected that you will be prepared to a
    lead class discussion on topics you are reading
    about and literature in design and development.
