Title: Negotiating a Job Offer: For Women, Its More than Just Negotiating Salary

1
Negotiating a Job Offer For Women, Its More
than Just Negotiating Salary

2
Objectives
  • Find out what to do before a job offer is made.
  • Understand what you can ask for during a job
    offer.
  • Where to research salary information.
  • Understand the 5 rules of negotiating.
  • Understand the Dos and Donts of negotiating.

3
Statistically Speaking
  • A study quizzed graduating master's degree
students who had received job offers about
whether they had simply accepted the offered
starting salary or had tried to negotiate for
more. Four times as many men -- 51 percent of the
men vs. 12.5 percent of the women -- said they
had pushed for a better deal. Not surprisingly,
those who negotiated tended to be rewarded --
they got 7.4 percent more, on average -- compared
with those who did not negotiate.

    offer you cant refuse!!!

  • Rule 3 Prepare in advanceknow your worth!
  • Rule 4Dont be afraid to askall they can say
    is NO!!!

11
Rule 5---Know when to foldem!!!
  • There comes a point in every negotiation when you
have achieved every thing that you could.
  • Dont upset the HR person.
  • Negotiating is all about achieving a win/win.
Dont be greedy or unreasonable with your
    expectations.
  • At this point accept or deny the offer.

12
Dos and Don'ts of Offer Negotiations
  • Do your research
  • Dont feel pressured to accept the first
    offerthink about it overnight.
  • Dont be shy!!! Tell them how great you are.
Tell them about the value you will bring to the
    organization.
  • Do be professional in your negotiations.
  • Do be realistic in your demands.
  • Don't let your current salary limit your
viewpoint of what you're earning potential might
be. If your research shows that the industry is
paying more than your were being paid, hold out
for this higher amount and remind the interviewer
    of your qualifications and experience.
  • Do get it in writing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

13
Questions?
  • Do I disclose my current or past salary history?
  • When do I start to negotiate?
  • Do I tell the employer my salary expectations
    during the application process?
  • What if the employer is not willing to negotiate?
  • Can I ask the salary range? If so, when should I
    ask?
