CAD Parametric Modelling Tutorial -Circular
Patterns
2
For your circular pattern you will first need to
create the profile you wish to pattern. I have
started with three rings. The first is the
outline of my shape, the third is the inside of
the shape and the second is a construction line
ring this is where my pattern profile will go.
I have drawn a circle as the profile I wish to
pattern. I have drawn this on the second ring.
You could circular pattern any profile, not just
circles.
3
You will need to select the CIRCULAR PATTERN tool
from the 2D SKETCH PANEL. A dialogue box will
appear asking you to select GEOMETRY and an AXIS.
The geometry is the profile you wish to pattern
and the axis is what you want the pattern to go
around. First select the profile then click on
the axis icon. Now select any of the larger
circles (or an appropriate work axis).
4
You will now see a preview of the circular
pattern. You will also be able to change the
number of profiles to be patterned using this box.
You are also able to change the angle to which
the pattern will go. In this case it is the full
360 degrees.
5
Sometimes you will find it easier or quicker to
produce a circular pattern as a feature instead
of as part of a sketch. You will need to create
a solid object here and sketch onto a surface.
6
As before you will need to sketch your profile to
be patterned. I have again used a construction
line circle to give me some help positioning my
profile.
7
Once extruded you will be able to create your
circular pattern. Scroll down the features menu
and find the circular pattern tool. As before a
dialogue box will appear. It is slightly
different this time, instead of geometry it now
asks you to select the feature you wish to
pattern.
You can either select the feature by moving the
cursor over the extruded feature or clicking the
correct extrusion on the browser bar.
8
You are again able to change the number of times
the feature will be patterned and how many
degrees it will go around.
