Title: Its so easy being green

1
  • Its so easy being green

Kermit The Frog Founding member of The AAA
Green Team TM
2
AAA GREEN TEAM
  • Site assessments energy analysis
  • 21st century energy plan outlining step by step
    recommendations.
  • Thermal heat recovery units
  • High efficiency lighting replacement
  • Evaluate and seal the exterior envelope of your
    building
  • Insulate your plumbing pipes, ceilings, overhead
    doors, etc.
  • Solar electric
  • Solar thermal
  • Wind power
  • Custom designed systems to exploit your sites
    unique potential
  • Here is whats available

3
Storm Clouds On The Horizon
  • Insufficient Supply
  • In the early 1990s there was about 35 reserve
    capacity on the power grid.
  • Last year there was only 17 reserve capacity.
  • Eight coal fired power plants have tried in vain
for years to receive building permits.
  • Forbes, The Associated Press and NextEnergy have
recently issued reports warning of brown and
    blackouts in 2009.
  • Skyrocketing Prices
  • Utility rates have increased about 5 a year for
    the past several years.
  • In October 2008 Michigan passed a bill which will
    increase electric rates even more.
  • If you think runaway oil prices are upsetting,
just wait for whats in store for electricity.
  • Forbes Magazine June 30th 2008.

4
Government Reaction
  • Local, State, and Federal Governments are looking
at all means possible to promote renewable
    energies and energy efficiency upgrades.

5
Current Incentives
  • STATE
  • RPS
  • Net Metering
  • Select Focus Project Grants
  • FEDERAL
  • EPAct 2005
  • 30 Tax Credit
  • USDA Grants
  • USDA Guaranteed Loans
  • More coming

6
What Should Be Looked At?
  • Can you benefit from heat pumps or solar roof
    vents?
  • Insulation of ductwork, water pipes ceilings.
  • We look at lighting types. Is natural lighting
used enough, what type of artificial lighting are
used, Can occupancy sensors save you energy?
  • All systems that use energy, waste energy, or can
increase the human benefit of each unit of energy
  • The envelop of the building for caulking, door
seals, electrical outlets, dampers, hatches, etc.
  • Passive solar potential.

7
Energy Efficient Upgrades
  • Before any money is spent on Renewable Energy
installations, we need to conserve what we
    already use.
  • In most cases we are using hundred year old
    technologies.
  • Energy savings of 50 or more are obtainable.

8
What Upgrades Should We Do?
  • Every building has opportunities, each building
is different and must be evaluated.
  • An energy analysis will look at every area of
    energy consumption in your building.
  • A detailed report will outline an action plan for
    your facility.

9
What Is Next?
10
Renewable Energy!!!!
11
Will Wind Work For Me?
  • Most zoning ordinances require you to have enough
property where the tower can fall in any
direction without hitting a structure, and
staying back from the property setback
    requirements.
  • The turbine should be a minimum of thirty feet
above any obstruction within 300 radius.

12
Wind Turbines
  • The turbines of today are quieter and more
    powerful than those of yesterday.
  • The Green Team only uses wind turbines that are
    made in America.
  • Michigan has the 14th best wind potential in the
    country.

13
Solar Electric Panels
  • Do I have a good location?
  • Roof Mounted
  • South facing roof
  • No shading from trees or other structures
  • Awning Mounted
  • Southern exposure patio
  • Southern exposure walkway
  • Pole Mounted
  • Clear area of your property with no shading

14
Does Michigan Get Enough Sun?
  • Michigan receives 4.2 hours of peak sun a day
    on an annual bases.
  • Germany is beating their goal of 20 RE by 2020,
even though they receive less sunlight annually.
  • The colder a panel is the more voltage it
    produces.
  • Panels in warmer climates receive more sun but
they produce less voltage per hour of peak sun

15
Arent Solar Panels Big And Ugly?
  • Solar panels have completely changed.
  • They can be many things. To name a few they can
be awnings, roofing shingles, panels placed on a
    roof, or structural roofing panels.
  • They can add to the esthetics of a house or
    commercial building.
  • They even come in a couple different colors.

16
Solar Thermal Panels
  • How can I get heat from the sun on a cold winter
    day?
  • How do I get air conditioning from the sun on a
    hot summer day?
  • Do they really work?
  • Is solar thermal a good option for me?

17
Hybrid Systems
  • Most locations can benefit from at least one form
    of renewable energy.
  • Some can benefit from multiple sources of
    renewable energy.
  • Solar electric, wind, hydro, solar thermal water
heating, solar thermal pool heating, passive
solar, solar thermal home heating air
conditioning, can be mixed and matched to
    optimize the specific resources available.

18
Stand Alone Application
  • Boat hoist
  • Cabins
  • Charging stations
  • Gate controllers
  • Lighting
  • Pool heating
  • Sheds

19
Where Do I Go From Here?
Have us help you develop your site specific 21st
century energy plan! 1 Identify areas of
energy conservation and maximization. 2
Pick the low hanging fruit. 3 Install energy
efficient upgrades 4 Add solar and/or wind
power
