Title: LandView 5
1LandView 5
- A Viewer for EPA, U.S. Census Bureau and U.S.
Geological Survey Data and Maps
2LandView 5 Software (LandView/MARPLOT)
- LandView consists of two software programs
- The LandView database manager that provides a
detailed data record for map objects - The MARPLOT (Mapping Application for Response,
Planning, and Local Operational Tasks) map
engine. - The LandView and MARPLOT programs work in tandem
to create an easy to use computer mapping system
that displays individual map layers and the
information associated with the map objects.
3LandView 5 Contents
- Whats in the LandView product?
- DP1 table based on SF1 for selected geographic
levels from block group to state summary level - Selected block statistics for blocks having
either population or housing units (approximately
66 of all Census 2000 blocks) - Maps showing selected TIGER/Line 2000 features
(i.e.major and minor roads, railroads, and water) - Census 2000 legal and statistical boundaries
including urban areas - Selected EPA Envirofacts data
- USGS Geographic Names Information System
4LandView 5
- What can LandView Do?
- Quickly locate an address or street intersection
on a map and identify census tract and block
group - Calculate Census 2000 Population and Housing Unit
counts within a user defined radius and display
the radius on the map - Browse and query records in the databases and
automatically show query results on a map - Create simple thematic maps from Census data
5LandView 5
- Census Audiences for LandView 5
- State Data Centers/Federal Depository Librarians
- SF users who need an inexpensive, simple, easy to
learn mapping program - HMDA/CRA Reporters
- Educators interested in teaching basic GIS
principles and demographic/environmental data
analysis
6LandView 5
- EPA Audiences for LandView Product
- CAMEO Software Users a tool used widely to plan
for and respond to chemical emergencies by
front-line chemical emergency planners and
responders (estimated 10,000 users).
7LandView 5
- Who Uses CAMEO?
- Firefighters
- State Emergency Response Commissions (SERCs),
Tribal Emergency Response Commissions (TERCs) and
Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPCs) - Chemical Industry (Risk Management Plans)
- Schools and Environmental Organizations
8LandView 5
- USGS Audience served by LandView Product
- Persons interested in the Geographic Names
Information System (GNIS). - GNIS was developed by the U.S. Geological Survey
(USGS) in cooperation with the U.S. Board on
Geographic Names, contains information about the
official names for places, features, and areas in
the Nation. - The GNIS features like schools, airports,
hospitals, cemeteries, religious institutions and
other local features richly supplement TIGER/Line
features on the LandView maps.
9LandView 5
- How Will LandView 5 Be Released?
- Custom CD-ROM (State or State Grouping) All
states should become available before the end of
October - LandView 5 contains 10.4 gigabytes of data
involving over 66,000 files that requires two
DVDs (East/West). DVDs are packaged together in a
single jewel case. The DVDs are being
manufactured and should be publicly available
before Thanksgiving, 2002 - To facilitate cross state analysis, Louisiana,
Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota are on both
the East and West DVDs

files to user layer (for example link to Mr. Sid
Viewer files) - Create and add additional map symbols for use
with user maps - Create sublayers to distinguishing between
perennial and intermittent water, show road
tunnels. - Possibly add topographic data layer (relief maps)
