History of The Game

• Originated in Scotland
• 1888 Golf surfaced in America
• John Reid built the first golf course
• The first golf course was built in a cow pasture

Anatomy of a Golf Hole

• Teeing Ground- The first stroke on each hole is
  hit from a tee.
• Fairway and Rough- the fairway is very short even
  grass.
• Rough is long uneven grass laying on the side of
  the fairway
• Hazards- water and/or sand bunkers
• Putting Green- area of the hole which has very
  short grass on it.

Clubs of the Past

• Older Clubs were made of Iron
• And also hard woods such as beach wood and ash
  prior to the 20th century
• Old golf balls were made of feather-stuffed
  balls, soft leather

Clubs

• Driver- used to start off longer holes, tee shot
• Irons- irons are used to hit the golf ball from
  the fairway or rough to green
• Wedges- are also used to place the ball onto the
  green usually out of a hazard
• Putter- used to hit the ball into the hole if not
  successful with a wedge or iron

The Golf Swing

• Stance- Shoulder width apart with your knees bent
  (athletic stance)
• Back Swing- pulling the club to the right or left
  depending on which is your dominate hand
• Downward Swing- pulling the club to the left or
  right to hit the ball

Helpful Hints to Better Your Golf Game

• Keep your eye on the ball
• Its not about how hard you hit the ball
• Good Posture is a key to a great swing
• After contact swing through the ball
• Square your body to the hole
