2The Context of LHC in France
- Strong and early support to LHC in the French
community - Ex Lausanne workshop 1984 , 25 physicists
(CEACNRS) / 96 outside Cern - and strong support at the government level
- Exceptional contribution 70 M
- 35 M (over index) 7 M (region) 25 M (
230 man.years, 124 CEA / 106 CNRS) - At present, 220 physicists involved, 25 of
all particle nuclear.

19Conclusion and perspective
- LHC top priority in France HEP
- Â Prospective CNRS-IN2P3 / CEA-Dapnia La Colle
sur Loup 2004Â - Technical responsibilities of French labs were
covered without major problems/delays and within
budget (including some contingency) - Some room now to start S-LHC RD
- Cost to completion of experiments French share
covered (not easily) - Computing is still a challenge ahead of us
organization / funding - Attract / get positions for new young physicists
in LHC experiments - is essential to get a scientific return at the
level of the investment - Communication on LHC strongly supported (ex
press visit Cern 21Apr 2006)
