3Why do we need coastal education programs?
- More than half the worlds 6 billion people
live within 60 miles of a coastline. - The average human population density in coastal
areas is twice the global average. - 34 percent of the world's coasts are at high
risk and another 17 percent at medium risk due
to human development.

- In California, 2/3 of the population lives near
the coast. - Currently 23 million Californians live near the
coast. By 2025, this figure will rise to 32.6
million.
