2Criterion G Identifying the
Problem within a Social Context
- The problem is the shower floor being too
slippery for the elderly to safely walk on. - The injuries they receive tend to be more severe
than any other injuries they get in their home.
3Criterion G Identifying the Problem within a
Social Context (part 2)
- More than half of the deaths that occur at
home(as shown by the graph to the right) are in
the shower. - The goal of my project was to provide safety in
showers to the elderly around the world.
4Criterion H Analyzing the Problem and The
Feasibility Study
- A feasible solution to the problem was installing
a surveillance system right in the shower. - It had to provide complete security so the user
would feel safe.
5Criterion H Analyzing the Problem and The
Feasibility Study (part 2)
- This solution was perfect for people that lived
by themselves because it contacted 911 if they
fell.
6Criterion IPlanning and Developing the Chosen IT
Solution
- The finished product was going to be a
surveillance system that alarmed emergency
services about any accidents that occur in the
shower. - The original hardware and software was
Wireless-N Internet Home Monitoring Camera, Voice
Shot, and GE Magnetic Strips.
7Criterion IPlanning and Developing the Chosen IT
Solution (part 2)
- The user had to be wearing a neck collar(top
image) with a magnetic strip, in order to trigger
the alarm system(bottom image) that is in the
shower
8Criterion IPlanning and Developing the Chosen IT
Solution (part 3)
- The wireless cameras purpose was to allow someone
else to keep an eye on the user. - http//linksysbycisco.com/US/en/learningcenter
This website shows how the wireless camera is
installed and the requirements. As well as how to
set up the website for the camera.
9Criterion IPlanning and Developing the Chosen IT
Solution (part 4)
- If the person fell, the program Voice Shot would
be used to call 911 to get help for the person. - This program was later changed to Skype during my
project.
10Criterion JTesting and Evaluating the Solution
- The Alpha test took place in the school library
where the alpha tester wore a Velcro neck collar
with a magnetic strip and walked through the
alarm system. - This was meant to show that the alarm system
worked.
11Criterion JTesting and Evaluating the Solution
(part 2)
- The Beta test also took place in the school
library. But this time a few changes were made
like a new Nylon collar. - The neck collar was sprayed with water to show
that it worked while wet.
12Criterion JTesting and Evaluating the Solution
(part 3)
- The final test took place in a shower where the
tester showed how the final product worked. - The last changes that were made was the mobile
software program from Voice Shot to Skype.
13Criterion JTesting and Evaluating the Solution
(part 4)
14Criterion KAssessing the Social Significance of
the Product
- In the end, the product was a complete success.
- The final set up looked like this.
15Criterion KAssessing the Social Significance of
the Product (part 2)
- This product can be a positive change in the
social impact area of health because it improved
the safeness of showers. - In the end, the social issue of health was fixed
and my end user felt safe in her own shower
again.
