3DCC Mission
- The mission of Detroit Childrens Choir (DCC)
is to use the power and discipline of choral
singing to bring together Detroit area children
in grades 3-8, representing a wide range of
ethnicities, religious beliefs and socio-economic
levels to strengthen team building, creativity,
social interaction, understanding and connection
to each other and their environment.

- The vision of DCC is to serve as a vehicle to
help the children of metropolitan Detroit grow,
gaining self confidence, social and political
awareness and academic skills while setting the
stage for continued active involvement in the
arts throughout their lives.

- Develop young leaders to bring about positive
change in our community. - Provide the opportunity for Detroit students to
expand their horizons through public performance. - Become ambassadors for Detroit through

20LaShell Griffin
- LaShell Griffin gained international fame when
she was chosen out of 15,000 hopefuls by America
to when Oprah Winfrey s Pop Star Challenge. Since
winning LaShell has traveled to country and the
world inspiring millions with her voice. She has
appeared on Good Morning America, TBN, The 700
Club, and shared the stage with Alicia Keys,
Jennifer Hudson, Mary J Blige, Donnie McClurkin,
Mary Mary, Kirk Franklin, Anita Baker and many
more. LaShell has toured with Oprah and was
honored to perform a prestigious (7) times for
President Barack Obama. The Detroiter is a
recording artist, model, actress, song writer,
poet, wife and mother of five. LaShell has
utilized the platform she has been blessed with
to motivate and encourage young people across the
country the past several years during her Dreams
and Beauty Motivational School Tour . It doesn t
matter where you live or where you were born, if
you believe in your dreams and work hard anything
is possible , said LaShell.

23Dr. Rollo Dilworth
- Dr. Rollo Dilworth was recently appointed as
Associate Professor of Choral Music Education at
Temple Universitys Boyer School of Music in
Philadelphia, PA. In addition to teaching
undergraduate and graduate courses in choral
music education, he serves as conductor for the
University Chorale. Prior to his appointment at
Temple, Dilworth served as Director of Choral
Activities and Music Education at North Park
University in Chicago, IL for 13 years. Dr.
Dilworth holds degrees from Case Western Reserve
University, University of Missouri-St. Louis, and
Northwestern University. Dilworth has written
and/or arranged over 150 choral works that are
currently in print. Dilworth is a contributing
author for the Essential Elements for Choir and
the Experiencing Choral Music textbook series,
both published by the Hal Leonard
Corporation/Glencoe/McGraw-Hill Publications, and
for Music Express! Teachers Magazine. He
authored a book of choral warm-ups for elementary
and secondary choral ensembles entitled Choir
Builders Fundamental Vocal Techniques for
General and Classroom Use.
