Overview
  • History Background
  • The Warfighter Training Challenge
  • Current DMO Efforts
  • Roadmap to the Future
  • Warfighter Technology Focus
  • Joint/Coalition Collaborations

3
History Background
  • Commander Air Combat Command (COMACC)
  • Needed a solution for long mission sorties for
    AWACS
  • Needed new F-15C Flight Simulator
  • Site visit to AFRL Mesa (Research Lab)
  • Develop Demonstrated Linked F-16s
  • Simulator concurrency issues
  • Needed a new, fast contract vehicle to link
simulators and ensure concurrency with aircraft
    on the line

4
CAF-DMOACQUISITION STRATEGY
  • Commercial Training Simulation Services (CTSS)
  • Government doesnt own hardware or software
  • Fee for Training Service
  • Increased contractors incentives for quality
    service
  • No pay until services start
  • Long term relationships (7 yr base 8 additional
    years)
  • Aircraft concurrency contracted in advance
  • Technology insertion contracted in advance
  • Contract-out operations integration--DMT OI
  • Operate the system of systems (MTCs linked to
    MTCs)
  • Keeps the government out of the middle

5
Warfighter Training Challenge
Put Bombs on Target 1st Sortie
  • Accomplish Detailed, Intel Fused Mission Planning
  • Complete Mission Rehearsal Against Anticipated
    Threats
  • Interpret Complex ROE
  • Integrate On/Off Board Sensors
  • Secure C2 Commit Approval
  • Employ Stand-off Weapons

The warfighter training challenge is to develop
an environment for systematic training of
warfighter mission competencies

The Question Can we train it all in live flying?
Constraints to live training Few
Joint/Coalition training venues Dwindling

  • What we really need
  • High Fidelity Virtual Battlespace
  • Full Sensor C2 Representation
  • Composite Force Operations
  • Full Combat Mission Rehearsal
  • Sensor-to-Shooter Interactions
  • Joint/Coalition Interoperability

Current DMO Efforts
  • CAF-DMO
  • F-15, F-16, AWACS Mission Training Centers
    (F-15E Sites in FY05)
  • Lateral Integration of ISR Assets
  • All MDS to be integrated
  • DMO-SO (AFSOC)
  • Full Mission Rehearsal Capabilities, but not
    linked to DMO network
  • AC-130U, MC-130E/H/P, MH-60K,MH-53J/K/M, MH-47,
    STS(Combat Controllers)
  • DMO-M (AMC)
  • DMO Ready C-5, C-17, KC-10 Flight Sims Boom
    Operator
  • DMO-S (AFSPC)
  • Space AOC, Space Warfare Center, Missile Warning,
Space Surveillance, Satellite Control, and Space
    C2 Units
  • DMO-C2 (AC2ISRC/DOT)
  • TACCSF, JCAS, CAOC, CAOC-N, CAOC-X, TACP, ASOC
  • DMO-T (AETC)
  • AWACS, F-16

CAF-DMO maintains the highest profile but is not
the only game in town
10
CAF DMO Training Plan
Complexity
  • Daily training for flights and crews
  • Sensors, shooters, and C2 networked for specific
    objectives
  • Integrated Combat Ops trained through Virtual

1. Training in simulators cannot replace actual
flight training. 2. Rehearsal in MTCs can make
scarce flying hours much more effective. 3. With
DMO funded, cost for 10 DMO rehearsals will 1
live-fly in 2007. 4. DMO hourly costs reduce as
contractors recover investment.

Warfighter Comments
DMO training will improve the skills of any
flight lead recommend the squadron to cycle all
pilots through DMO. Easily the best prep for 4
ship FLUG -- F-16 pilots, 523 FS, Cannon We
consider the DMO system to be absolutely required
for future FWS course development -- FWS F-16
Division Commander Im not going back to Shaw,
Im having too much fun! This is essential for
AEF Training -- 9th AF/CC

The Bottom Line!
  • I was downtown at the start of tonights
activities and got to launch the first HARM of
Operation Iraqi Freedomthe location of my flight
and the tactics employed were EXACTLY like we
were practicing in the F-16 MTC at Shaw before we
    lefttalk about Mission Rehearsal!
  • ANG F-16 pilot,
  • Weapons School Grad
  • MTC Mission Training Center
