2
Tech plan forms are open . . . . . . from
October 12 through November 19, 2004.

Purpose of tech plan forms
  • Help districts and DOE assess their progress in
    meeting technology goals
  • Enable districts to be eligible for technology
    funding
  • Help ensure that districts are complying with
E-Rate regulations, as well as state and federal
    tech goals

4
Another purpose . . .
  • We can analyze data submitted by districts to
    identify trends and best practices.
  • We share information through our annual report.

Did you know?
  • Submitting tech plan data online is not a tech
    plan!
  • It is a report on your implementation of your
    long-range tech plan.

6
Tech Plan Approval
  • We review the data districts submit online to
assess your progress in implementing your tech
    plan.

Student technology literacy

    the tech standards?
  • How did you arrive at your answer?

13
Teacher use of technology

  • For planning, administrative tasks,
    communications, and collaboration
  • For instruction (with students)
  • How do you know?

14
New tools to help districts gather data

  • Teacher Technology Use Survey
  • Administrators Technology Self-Assessment Tool
    (now in draft form)

15
Technical support
  • How do you provide tech support?
  • A new text field allows you to describe how you
    deal with this challenge.
  • This will allow us to share new ideas in our
    annual report.

16
Distance learning
  • There are separate questions on
  • Web-based courses and workshops
  • Courses and workshops that use web-based
    videoconferencing
  • Satellite-based or televised courses and
    workshops

17
Upgrades to computer types

    at our spring roundtables.

    (or equivalent)
  • Type B 128 MB RAM, Pentium 3 or Macintosh G3
    (or equivalent)

18
Now on the school form
  • Questions about acceptable use policies (now
    including policies for staff)
  • Questions about access to computers and the
Internet outside the school day (with a new
question about allowing students to bring laptops
    from home)

19
Other technologies
  • Probes for handhelds
  • Digital still cameras
  • Scanners

20
Other changes
  • PD does not have to be paid for by district in
    order to be counted.
  • The form asks you to indicate the grade levels in
    each school.

21
Help us collect better data
22
Student to computer ratios
  • You should count only computer that were in your
    district from July 1, 2004 to June 30, 2004.
  • The ratio is calculated using the student
    population from the same year.

23
Curriculum integration support
  • Last year, just 46 of districts had a ratio of
at least a half-time support person for every 60
    teachers.
  • However 5 of districts reported a ratio of a
half-time person for 10 or fewer teachers. Is
    this correct???

24
Curriculum integration support
  • Be sure to enter the total number of
    instructional staff (teachers, aides,
    paraprofessionals).
  • The form calculates the ratio of instructional
staff to support staff (counting staff and
    contracted services).

25
Curriculum integration support
  • This years curriculum integration support ratio
is based on 1 FTE rather than .5 FTE.
  • Library personnel can be counted as curriculum
integration support staff if they perform that
    function.

26
Classrooms connected
  • We ask how many classrooms in a school.
  • We ask how many are connected.
  • If the second number is greater than the first,
    the percent will be 100.

27
Computers connected
  • The form calculates the number of instructional
    computers in a school.
  • We ask how many are connected.
  • If you enter a number greater than the total, the
    percent will be 100.
