Brief History
  • Krispy Kreme doughnuts were first sold on
    July13,1937 by Vernon Rudolph
  • By the 1940s there were many family owned small
    chain stores
  • A distribution plant was then established which
    distributed Krispy Kreme doughnut mix
  • Vernon Rudolph, founder, died in 1973
  • Krispy Kreme was then reorganized for sales to
    Beatrice Foods Company in 1976 after Rudolphs
    death

  • In 1982, Krispy Kreme was bought back from
    Beatrice Foods by a small group of associates
  • Soon after, the first store was opened in New
    York City in 1996 and later in California
  • In 1997 company artifacts were added to the
    Smithsonian Institutions National Museum of
    American History

    create the perfect doughnut shape
  • Dutch American settlers combined the words
    dough and nut to produce the word doughnut
  • Krispy Kreme is not only known for their
    doughnuts, but also for their coffee and frozen
    drinks
