Welcome to Adelaide High Schools Resource Centre

• The Resource Centre is an essential part of
  student learning at Adelaide High School.
• Students come here as individuals or with subject
  teachers to access information and convert it
  into their own knowledge.

• Books
• Magazines newspapers
• Videos
• CD-ROMs
• The Internet

Information from books

• Our collection is carefully selected to support
  the curriculum at AHS.
• For example we have books written in foreign
  languages (fiction and non-fiction)
• Please check our display of multicultural texts

Information from magazines and newspapers

• We subscribe to
• daily newspapers
• Current Social Environmental Issues,
• Time, Bulletin and New Internationalist,
• Guidelines (index to magazine articles)
• Sydney Morning Herald (CDs)

There are also many on-line newspapers and
magazines - we have links to these on our Intranet

Information from videos, slides cassettes

• The video collection and other audio-visual items
  support the curriculum, and are available for
  loan to students
• We also have archival tapes of school events

Information from CD-ROMs and the Internet

• Many CD-ROMs are available in the RC and on the
  school network.
• The Internet is very much in demand. Have a look
  at the Intranet pages that we have designed to
  help both students and staff use it effectively.

Information Literacy

• The key to using all these sources of information
  is not just that they are available, but that
  students know how to find and use the
  information.
• Information literacy is a necessity in this
  information age

Information Skills

• These skills are taught in the classroom and in
  the resource centre by subject teachers and
  teacher-librarians.
• Please collect the handout which explains these
  skills and strategies in more detail.

How we help students in the Resource Centre

• Ensure that the collection of resources are
  relevant, up-to-date, and suitable for a wide
  range of abilities.
• Work with subject teachers to teach students
  vital information skills.
• Assist individual students to locate and use
  resources within and beyond the school.
• Provide a user-friendly study environment.
• ...and its all done with a friendly smile!!
