Phillips Machine Service has been in continuous
operation since that day. Tom Cushman joined the
company in 1979. First mining machine rebuilt by
Phillips was a shuttle car. Moved to present
location in 1979.
Area under roof for production now 10220 M2
(110,000 Sq. Ft.). 13 Employees has grown to
135. Phillips Complex covers 5.7 Hectares (14
Acres).

Annual production grew to over 60 million USD for
domestic sales in year 2006. International
equipment and parts sales approached 5 million
USD for year 2006. Services offered at our
Beckley, WV location include Fully staffed
machine shop. Welding and Fabrication
shop. Continuous miner repair shop. Longwall
repair shop. Highwall miner repair
shop. Haulage and conveying repair shop.

Mission Statement

Service to keep our customers machinery in
production .

PHILLIPS MACHINE SERVICE, INC TODAY
Phillips is the largest independently owned
rebuild and repair facility in the USA. We are
also the largest source for used underground coal
mining equipment in the USA. Our specialty has
been continuous miners. We have over fifty used
core machines in stock. In 2000 Phillips decided
it was time to become an OEM. The coal mining
industry was looking for a batch haulage vehicle
that could compliment the increased production
rates of the modern day continuous miner. We knew
what our customers needed. In early March 2000 we
decided to build a proto-type machine and our
target was to display this machine in the Las
Vegas Coal Show in September.

LAS VEGAS COAL SHOW 2000
Design of Prototype FreedomTM Car starts late in
July 2000. Prototype FreedomTM Car is displayed
in 2000 Las Vegas Coal Show. Prototype receives
MSHA approval in Sept 2001 in time for Bluefield
Coal Show. Prototype enters production in local
coal mine in October 2001. Prototype works well
and is returned to Phillips for Motor and
Electronics upgrades. Prototype begins a series
of demonstration trials and is in production
today at Consols Emery Mine in Utah.
