  • Referent-is applied to all words that act as
    substitute.
  • Referents refer (backward or forward) to things
    or people mentioned elsewhere in the text.

WHY should we learn this skill?
  • It is the mark of a good reader that he/she
    recognizes, very quickly, what each referent in a
    text refers to. Good readers are also quick to
    recognize ambiguous referents, and have a
    techniques for dealing with them. When they meet
    them, they pause and re-read the sentence, then
    make a quick decision about the referents
    correct meaning.? understand the text !!!
