  • Basal Metabolic Rate
  • Identifies the energy needed to maintain
    involuntary processes.
  • Involuntary processes include breathing, blood
    pumping through our bodies, blinking, and growing.

How do I Know my BMR?
  • There are several formulas for calculating your
    BMR
  • The easy method is
  • Multiply your weight by 10
  • Then add your weight to that number
  • Practice for a 140lb person

  • 1400 140 1540
  • A person who weighed 140 pounds would need 1540
    calories per day just to maintain body function

  • Divide your total into your weight

  • The number of calories needed will vary during
    your lifetime.
  • Activity level and age are two of the factors
    that determine your caloric need.
  • But how do you know how many you need?

How many calories?
  • Sedentary Weight X 14
  • Moderately active Weight X 17
  • Very Active Weight X 20
  • Moderate means Aerobic exercise at least 3-4
    times per week.
  • Very active means Aerobic exercise at least 6-7
    times per week.

  • Your numbers are just one tool, or guide to help
    improve your overall health. Use them to
    determine your long term health.
