- Microsoft Publisher can allow you to create many
different projects like calendars, business
cards, posters, and more. - This tutorial is specifically designed to show
you how to make a tri-fold brochure - Follow the steps in each slide and try to create
your own! If you are in Newspaper, youll want
to create a newsletter, rather than a brochure.

4Publications by Wizard, by a specific design,
or create your own from blank here
5Brochures
- Use the Publications by Wizard to get a basic
form already set up - Use the Publications by Design to select a
pattern and see the many varieties of forms that
can be created with that design make sure you
stay in the Informational Brochure field or
youll create something that Publisher cannot
print on the Media Center printers - Use the Blank Publications to create your own
6Select brochures - Informational and then
choose a specific pattern or layout you like.
7Design Wizard
- Choose Brochures and then select Informational
Brochure and choose the design you like - Start the WIZARD and then create a basic template
- SAVE THIS TEMPLATE TO YOUR FOLDER ON THE SERVER!
8Use the wizard to guide you through the basics.
9Select a color scheme, use custom to make your own
10Choose of panels 3 for most brochures!
11You probably wont want a placeholder for
customer address.
12You probably wont need a response form,
but heres where you can select one, if you do.
13Use Update if you want to include logo info on
the back page
14Update your info from this screen.

18Drawing Toolbar
- The drawing toolbar will enable you to create a
text box, word art, insert clips or pictures etc. - Since you are selecting a design that already has
a basic layout youll need to delete the text
that is given to as an example and simply fill in
your own information - Once you understand what youre doing, you can
create your own font/style and so on, but if you
use the Wizard all you are doing is deleting the
sample text and replacing it with your own words
and photos.

20Tips to Remember
- Page ONE gives you the opening, teaser page and
back cover - Page TWO is the inside body of the brochure
- REMEMBER TO FOLLOW THE RULE OF THIRDS break
your brochure down vertically and horizontally in
thirds and place visual items by these sectors - Save a basic template to copy and edit later!

22Tips to using the Toolbars
- The Text box is used to create a place for words
- Dont forget RIGHT CLICK will give you a menu of
choices, LEFT CLICK will execute a command - Once you have a box try to change the frame
properties other choices can give you
selections like border art, etc. - The drawing shapes can allow you to enter a
variety of designs or create your own at the
Design Gallery!
23Printing your publication
- Be sure to choose FILE, PRINT and then select
page 1 to 1 - After you print the 1st page, place the paper
into the printer tray printed side up and the
top corner at your left hand side as you face the
printer - Then choose FILE, PRINT, and select
- page 2 to 2
- This will print your brochure as a tri-fold on
one sheet of paper printed on both sides!
24Try another design
- Select an index card (Blank Publications), sign,
flyer, newsletter, or other type of creation to
make - Save this template to your folder on the server
as well (it will be a .pub file) - You can save these basic formats and then when
you take another course and have to create a
design, you can simply edit what you already have
saved!
