2
Quotesfrom the time period
  • Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet.
Only through experience of trial and suffering
can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired,
    and success achieved.
  • - Helen Keller

3
Words that describe the time period
  • Convenience
  • Practicality

4
Womens Silhouette
  • Women of the 1880s had two different kinds of
dresses their day dress and their evening dress.
  • The day dress, usually made of heavier fabric
that was dark in color, was ankle or floor length
and was faceted in the front with closely set
    eyes and hooks.
  • The evening dress was made of lighter fabrics and
was usually of a pastel color. These dresses
werent made to fit a womans natural body. They
were designed around a tight-fitting corset that
created an extremely tiny waste and high bust
that was deemed attractive in the Victorian
    time frame.

5
Mens Silhouette
  • The mens wardrobe began with plain, straight leg
    trousers.
  • Their shirts were pullovers with large sleeves
and had tails that were tucked into the trousers.
  • A vest was worn at all times, whether it be
single breasted, double breasted, collared, or no
    collar.
  • There were three different types of coats that
could have either been single breasted or double
    breasted Tailcoats, frock coats, and
round-about coats. No matter if the coat
stopped at the waist or had tails in the back
that reached the mans thighs, the coat was
always cut to show the vest underneath.

6
Popular Colors of the 1880s

    the fashion of the 1880s.

  • sea green
  • In the evening, softer hues were used.

Costumes Mrs. Darling
  • The dress on the left is what I would use for the
    opening scene for Mrs. Darling.
  • I would use soft colors like a pastel pink or
blue to identify with Mrs. Darlings motherly and
    kind personality.

Costumes Mr. Darling
  • For Mr. Darling, I choose the suite on the right.
In the beginning, Mr. and Mrs. Darling are going
out to a dinner party and therefore, he would
    need a dressier suit.

12
Costumes Wendy Darling
  • For Wendy, I would choose the dress on the right.
However, I would add sleeves to it because the
play I would set in winter and Wendy, being her
practical self, would wear a night gown that was
    weather appropriate.

Costumes Peter Pan
  • There were many choices of costumes I could have
chosen for Peter, but I felt that the costume in
the 2003 movie version was the most authentic to
the role because of the use of leaves in the
    texture.
  • However, I would add a little more coverage (aka.
The rest of the torso) to the costume.
