  • H Drive
  • Your H personal network drive folder is provided
    to store business documents that can only be
    accessed by you and by support personal for
    specific situations as required by Security or
    Human Resources.
  • S Drive
  • The S departmental folder is provided to store
    shared departmental business documents.

Viewing
  • Views
  • Tools, Folder Options, View, Apply to All Folders

Copy/Paste/Delete
  • You should never move a file on the network.
    Always copy, paste to new location and delete
    from previous location.
  • Why? Permissions to the file are treated
    differently when copied vs. moved.
  • Permissions are retained when moved.

  • Copy/Paste
  • ? ? The item now exists in two places
  • ? ? If you edit one, the other is not updated
  • ? ? Delete original if that is your intent
  • Copy/Paste/Delete
  • Move (Cut/Paste)
  • ? ? The item is no longer in the original
    location
  • ? Permissions to the file may be wrong!

Left Mouse Button Dangers!
  • Slip of the wrist
  • You meant to open the file, but you accidentally
    moved it
  • Too slow
  • You meant to open the file, but you accidentally
    renamed it

  • Stop!
  • EDIT UNDO (ctrl-z)
  • Will undo the last change you made
  • Includes moving and copying files

Shortcut Icons
  • Shortcut to a FOLDER
  • Shortcut to a FILE
  • A file ON THE DESKTOP
  • NEVER save files on the desktop

How to create a Shortcut Icon
  • Browse to the file or folder
  • Right Click on the file or folder
  • (left click) Send To
  • (left click) Desktop (create shortcut)

Save It
  • On the File menu of the program you are working
    in, click Save
  • If you haven't saved your file before, type a
    name for the file in File name

Save As
  • To save a copy of a file under a different name
    or in a different location
  • On the File menu
  • Click Save As
  • Browse to the drive or folder where you want to
    save the file, and then type the new name in the
    File name box
