Analyze Learners
  • The age of the students in this course should be
    from the ages of 14 and 15. They should be in
    the 9th grade. They might have already had a
    civics class, but this will be very basic for any
    level of pervious knowledge. On some days during
    this unit plan, the students will be in groups
    and others they will work alone.

State Objectives
  • SS.9.2.7 analyze the presidential election
    process, and the continued use of the Electoral
    College.
  • After this lesson, students will be able to
  • Explain the election process.
  • Explain how a campaign works.
  • Make a speech.
  • Identify what past presidents goals were.
  • Explain the Electoral College.

  • Pencil
  • Paper

  • Colored Pencils and crayons

Utilize Media and Materials
  • Day One Introduce the four phases of the
    Presidential election. Discuss each phase in
    detail.
  • Day Two Talk more about Phase Two, National
    Party Conventions. Start the game where students
    will form their own two parties, hold a
    convention for their made up party, and have a
    mock election.

  • Day Three Talk more about Phase Three, the
    General Election Campaign. Assign presidential
    speech which will be due on Day Five.
  • Day Four Talk more about Phase Four, the
    Electoral College. Give students a map of the
    USA, and fill in the number of votes each state
    gets.
