The beginning of civilization
  • The first civilization began between the Tigris
    in the Euphrates Rivers in what is today Iraq.

Ancient history of this land
  • Over the past five thousand years, the land that
    is now Iraq, was ruled by many peoples including
    the Babylonians and the Ottomans.

  • 1932 3 October - Iraq becomes an independent
    state after the British leave the area

  • 1979 - Saddam Hussein becomes President

  • 1980-88 -the eight year long bloody Iran/Iraq
    war).
  • During these years, Iraq received significant
    amounts of money, weapons, and support from the
