    climate.

Introduction
  • (Engage) The students will have a silent
    discussion on the question What is the difference
    between climate and weather. A silent discussion
    is when the students write their answer on a
    sheet of paper and pass it back and forth with a
    partner without talking. (5 minutes)

Activity
  • Five Groups
  • Locate and circle the cities of Chicago, Miami,
    Phoenix, Memphis, and Seattle on a map.
  • Predict where each city, except Memphis, belongs
    using the table located on the bottom of the
    handout
  • Research one of the cities to find out the yearly
    temperature and precipitation

  • Guided Discussion
  • Which cities are located near oceans?
  • Which cities are farthest south?
  • How does this compare to the other cities?

Modifications
  • Students who did not master interpreting will be
    given tables with more direct information
  • Students that have mastered the objective will
    label a diagram showing how a mountain affects
    precipitation, climate, and the movement of air
    masses.
