Getting Started
Lets look at what you will need to do in order
to manage your time effectively while at college
and also once you enter the REAL WORLD. Once you
have learnt how to do this you will be able to
carry out a wide variety of tasks without getting
stressed out. In this exercise you will learn
some useful time management tips and complete a
survey to assess how you use your time. So lets
get started.

Time Management Tips
  • Create a schedule or Things To Do list in which
    you can write down all of the things you need to
    do for the day or for the week. Use a diary to
    show the different times that you have to do
    things at.
  • Learn to prioritise all of your tasks-put the
    most important things to do first on your list
    and the not so important things afterwards. If
    you have things to do that are at set times of
    the day then you obviously need to consider this.
  • 3. Learn to say no! If you are unable to do
    something for somebody, either arrange to do it
    another time or kindly let the person know that
    your schedule is full.

YOU ARE IN CONTROL!
After scheduling becomes a habit, then you can
adjust it. It's better to be precise at first. It
is easier to find something to do with extra time
than to find extra time to do something.
Most importantly, make it work for you. A time
schedule that is not personalized and honest is
not a time schedule at all.

Time Management Survey
The following survey shows the amount of time you
spend on various activities. When taking the
survey, estimate the amount of time spent on each
item. Once you have this amount, multiply it by
seven. This will give you the total time spent on
the activity in one week. After each item's
weekly time has been calculated, add all these
times for the grand total. Subtract this from
168, the total possible hours per week.

Scheduling and managing time wisely are important
for the college student. If you miss important
appointments and deadlines you will cause
complications to both your academic and social
lives. This causes anxiety, frustration, guilt,
and other nasty feelings. Now that you have
