Conclusions from the first lecture

Conclusions from the first lecture This move to
regain control of both the creative AND the
constructive process can be assisted through the
use of CNC fabrication machines. By giving the
designer greater and more direct control over the
fabrication process, the architect resumes an
important role within the PRODUCTION part of the
DESIGN CYCLE.
6
The PRODUCTION and DESIGN CYCLE Most digital
architects are still using the computer and
specifically CAAD software to generate the
construction documents and drawings. The act of
design is still conducted in the traditional
manner using traditional tools.
7
The PRODUCTION and DESIGN CYCLE Those architects
who are exploring the creative possibilities of
CAAD and using the digital medium as a design
tool are understanding the potential for a
complexity in design that was not previously
acheivable.
8
The PRODUCTION and DESIGN CYCLE Those architects
who are exploring the creative possibilities of
CAAD and using the digital medium as a design
tool are understanding the potential for a
complexity in design that was not previously
acheivable. With this complexity also comes the
issue of build-ability.
9
The PRODUCTION and DESIGN CYCLE With this
complexity also comes the issue of
build-ability. The use of CNC Fabrication
machines is therefore most often not an
experiment unto itself, but a by product of the
complexity of digitally driven design. There are
many architect who are now using CNC fabrication
techniques as part ofhte construction process of
thier buildings.

an experiment unto itself, but a by product of
the complexity of digitally driven design. There
are many architect who are now using CNC
fabrication techniques as part ofhte construction
process of thier buildings. However there are
few who also actively incorporate the basic
principles of the technology into the design of
the building.
