Title: Media Services Virtual Manual
1Media Services Virtual Manual
- Room 7 8 Using the Audio Cassette Decks
2Welcome!
- In this session, youll learn how to use the
audio cassette decks in Rm 7 8. By the end of
this session you should be able to - Play and record using the audio cassette decks.
3Well start with the touchscreen. Youll need to
activate the system when you begin. When you
first approach the podium, the touchscreen will
most likely be dark a power saving feature.
Its on, just touch the screen anywhere to bring
up the image. Then press the indicated area to
bring up the menus and activate the system.
4Next, put your tape in the deck marked Rec/Play
Only, not the Do Not Use deck. With the tape
in place, you can control playback and recording
from the podium.
Eject Button
5The controls for the audio cassette can be
accessed by pressing Tape Dec on the left side
of the touchscreen. Volume controls can be
brought up by pressing the Volume button in the
top right corner. Audio cassette controls
include play, fast forward, rewind, pause, stop,
and record. Volume controls include up, down,
and mute.
6In order to record a classroom presentation to
audio cassette, you must gain access to the
control booth between classrooms 7 8, because
the microphones are kept in the control booth.
Please contact facilities or Carla Almaraz for
access to the booth. There are two types of
microphones available regular corded
microphones (up to two per room), and a wireless
microphone one per room. Each has its own
advantages and disadvantages.
7First, the wireless microphone. This is handy
for speakers who like to move around the room.
Its light, and you dont have to worry about
cords. However, its easy to confuse the
microphone with the earphone for hearing
assistance. Also, the wireless mic can run out
of battery power. (Spare batteries are in the
booth). And if you arent looking at the mic
(and the volume is down), youll never know its
battery is dead.

8The second option is to use regular corded
microphones. The microphones themselves are in
the booth, in black bags. The cords for them are
in drawers at the bottom of the racks in the
rooms. There are two connections for microphones
in each room in the podium itself, to the right
of the computer.
9Pros? You dont have to worry about batteries,
there are two of them, and you dont have to
worry about accidentally turning them off. Cons?
Well, theyre a little more bulky, and may
require stands. There are some desk stands
available in the control booth, and floor stands
should be available from facilities.
10With the speaker now wired for sound, and the
tape in place, were ready to record. Go to the
touchscreen, and select Tape Deck on the left.
You may then press the Record Teachers Lecture
button in the main control area to record.
Simply press stop to stop the recording.
11Last but Not Least!
- If they were used, please make sure to raise
screens and shades, reset the lights, and turn
the system off. The bulb in the projector has a
very limited lifespan, is expensive, and
difficult to replace. So, when youre done,
please make sure to turn off the system by
pressing System Power on the right side of the
touchscreen, followed by the System Off button in
the lower left. Thank you!
