  • Culinary Cave-Man Style
  • The act of barbecuing ones dinner has been
    called the oldest form of culinary art and most
    barbecue enthusiasts wont dispute that claim.
    They will, however, dispute long and vigorously
    the merits of using a state-of-the-art gas
    barbecue versus a more traditional barbecue
    apparatus that relies on wood and charcoal.
  • There is little reason to doubt the first ever
    barbecue stations were fueled by wood chips,
    bark, and maybe even a hot rock or two. After
    all, people have been cooking their food for tens
    of thousands of years and theyve relied on the
    fuel sources and tools that were available at
    hand. Its difficult for many modern cooks of
    today to understand that the very act of getting
    a fire to start when planned was, in fact,
    advanced technology at one time.

  • The skilled fire starters of the day dazzled a
    crowd just by deliberately creating a spark that
    would (usually) cause flammable materials to
    burst into flame. When this delicious event
    occurred, the tribal meal was sure to be tastier
    than it would be without the application of fire
    but it was more tender, aromatic, and more
    nutritious, too.

  • The act of cooking food is thought to release
    chemical bonds, allowing for greater access to
    the nutrients within. The controlled use of fire
    is said to be one of the triggers for
    evolutionary advancement that led to the large
    and complex brain of modern humans.
  • The highly advanced, well-fed human brains of
    today have created modern gas barbecue pits and
    grills that make cooking over an open flame as
    simple as the flick of a switch. Where a small
    village may have once shared a single communal
    barbecue pit, todays small village likely boasts
    a barbecue pit or grill at every individual
    residence.
  • One neighbor in the village may rely totally on
    the cutting-edge technologies behind the
    multi-functioning gas barbecue stations
    commercially available today while his neighbor
    may be more inclined to use charcoal,
    flavor-infusing wood chips, and woody-stemmed
    herbs such as rosemary and thyme to fuel a family
    meal. Either way, the results are delicious.

  • Perhaps more so than with any other form of
    cooking, the technique is as important as the
    results. Regardless of the type of barbecue
    set-up one uses, smoke and open flame cant be
    avoided, making barbecuing the only common form
    of cooking best done outdoors.

    convenient but cooking with charcoal and wood
    proves to be more of a ritual than a cooking
    technique. Enthusiasts of this form of cooking
    enjoy the cooking almost as much as eating the
    finished dish.
  • Outdoor cooking is so much fun its the only form
    of cooking thats created its own party
    environment, with backyard barbecues being
    enjoyed all around the world all year long. And
    the fun of a barbecue stays the same even if the
    choice of fuel changes from party to party.
