Defining Diversity/Multicultural Education

• Diversity differences among students.
• Language, gender, religion, socioeconomic status,
  family structure, sexual orientation, and
  cognitive abilities are all examples of
  differences you may encounter.
• Teachers need to be educated to be sensitive to
  and appreciate the diversity found within the
  classroom.

• All children deserve an education, even those in
  the language minority.
• Learn key phrases to facilitate lessons.
• Pictures, gestures symbols
• should be utilized.
• GO THE EXTRA MILE!

Strategies to Reduce the Effects of Racism in the
Classroom

• Show movies that address the topic of racism and
  discuss.
• Include examples of historically important
  persons of different races
• Group students in diverse work groups

• Promote awareness of diverse cultural practices
  in the world
• Do not tolerate racist comments or attitudes in
  the classroom
• Model exemplary behavior at all times

• Really listen to their comments and suggestions
• Make contact with the parent or guardian
