In the next 10 years the Council will be working
with the London Thames Gateway Development
Corporation and the London Development Agency to
transform Dagenham Dock into Londons home for
green business.
The Millennium Centre Eastbrookend Country Park
At Barking Riverside, where 10,800 new homes are
planned, development is due to start before the
end of 2009. The DLR extension is essential for
the delivery of these homes.

Bexleys location at the heart of the Thames
Gateway, Europes largest regeneration
initiative, is helping to secure significant new
investment in housing, jobs, community
infrastructure and the environment. This is
changing peoples lives and contributing to
thriving, cohesive and balanced communities.
Erith Marshes and BEA looking North East
The Thames Innovation Centre (TIC) is a 50,000 sq
ft award-winning business and innovation centre
in Veridion Park, a 68-acre mixed use development
with plans for 680,000 sq ft office and warehouse
space in Erith. Veridion Park will provide an
opportunity for small to medium enterprises, and
even start-ups, to locate in an affordable area
of London.

"Cheapside lies at the heart of the City of
London. The area is currently undergoing a
dramatic transformation as a series of major new
developments are constructed that will more than
double the amount of retail floorspace over the
next few years. This is the equivalent of the
shopping centre development at White City but in
a high street location.
The Cheapside Area Strategy aims to reinstate
Cheapside's historic role as the City's main
market place and conduit of social life. The new
developments, combined with an exciting cultural
programme of events, enhanced street scene and
transport improvements can establish Cheapside as
the City's pre-eminent retail and leisure
destination, seven days a week."

LB Dartford
Vision At the heart of the Boroughs vision is
the common sense innovation that new buildings
should have an indirect community benefit
alongside a sustainable primary purpose. Proof of
this approach is evident in the new Princes Park
Community Stadium, IT training centre in
Swanscombe and of course the Dartford Dojo
which is primarily a centre of excellence for
sport but will inevitably become a community
benefit for local Stone residents.

Background The population of the Borough is
85,900 residents and approximately 37,400
households. Located on the border of Kent,
London and Essex, Dartford is one of the most
exciting and dynamic regions in the
country. Dartford is at the heart of one of the
Governments key growth zones within the Thames
Gateway and will see around 20,000 new homes and
up to 50,000 new jobs created in the borough over
the next 25 years a substantial addition to the
existing 80,000 residents in the Borough.

• The future for Dartford is similarly bright. 
  Despite the plans to increase substantially in
  size there is an underlying commitment to
  quality of design, build and purpose.  The
  Bridge development, just a few hundred metres
  from the Dartford Dojo, highlights perfectly the
  direction that Dartford is taking towards
  sustainability.

An exemplar of public-private partnership, The
Bridge is redefining the rules for large scale
mixed-use development.  By Integrating the needs
of commercial occupiers and residents with a
thoughtful approach to the natural environment,
The Bridge highlights how the Borough is moving
towards the future. If only ALL Councils were
like DARTFORD!

LB Greenwich
Greenwich is known across the globe as the home
of the Prime Meridian longitude 00 - from which
world time, Greenwich Mean Time, was first
calculated. The boroughs royal associations,
its architectural gems and its fabulous open
spaces including those of the Maritime
Greenwich World Heritage Site help attract
around 9 million visitors to the borough each
year. Greenwich is preparing for a further role
in the worlds spotlight when the borough hosts
the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Tourism contributes to around 25 per cent of jobs
in the borough.
Greenwichs pioneering local employment scheme
has placed almost 10,000 local people into work.
Working with developers and securing support
through Section 106 agreements has helped us
secure jobs and training for local people on
high-profile developments and inspired similar
schemes across the country

Greenwich Peninsula is home to The O2 Arena
officially the worlds most successful
entertainment venue. The next phase of
development at the Peninsula will feature 10,000
new homes, a newly built secondary school, and an
employment and business hub focusing on creative
industries.
Greenwich Council fought hard to bring new
transport links to the borough. The Jubilee Line
at Greenwich Peninsula and DLR extensions to
Greenwich and Woolwich have proved key catalysts
for regeneration. Crossrail will bring economic
benefits for the borough estimated at over 80
million. Greenwich Council remains committed to
a new Thames crossing which will vastly improve
access to the relatively isolated north-east of
the borough.

  development will be of both regional and national
  significance. The Havering part of London
  Riverside could, by 2020, generate

• An internationally recognised conservation park
  attracting 1 million visitors annually
• A revitalised Historic Village as a gateway to
  the Wildspace conservation park

Romford is a major metropolitan centre and is the
biggest town centre in East London as well as one
of the top 15 shopping centres in the South East.
It has some of the top performing stores in the
country and has 25 million visitors a year with
an annual turn over of 500m.
Liberty Shopping Centre
The regeneration of Havering Riverside is a key
objective of the Council. It is working in
partnership with national and regional agencies,
local business, the voluntary and community
sector and resident communities to secure new
sustainable communities, recreation
opportunities, open space, new transport links,
social infrastructure and high quality employment
areas providing job opportunities for the
existing and new populations.

LB Redbridge
Redbridge is one of the greenest boroughs in East
London. Last year household recycling in
Redbridge rose to 26 per cent. Green garden waste
and compost collection increased and the Borough
offered subsidised composting bins to
residents Redbridge Schools are amongst the best
in England ranking amongst the top three local
authorities last year 95 of students achieved
five or more passes at GCSE Adult social care in
Redbridge received the highest possible rating of
excellent for providing services that improved
the quality of life for elderly residents

their former glory and reopened to the public in
March. The opening weekend was a huge success
with over 5,000 visitors

• Tower Hamlets is home to the UKs second largest
  financial centre, Canary Wharf currently
  employing 90,000 people
• Tower Hamlets has the highest concentration of

• The NHS in the London Thames Gateway is working
  to tackle three key strategic challenges.
• Planning for Growth
• The development of a more sophisticated model is
  necessary to identify the appropriate social
  infrastructure (SIF) required to support
  residential and economic growth.
• 2. Tackling Health Inequalities
• Addressing some of the highest levels of obesity
  in the UK, without which todays children will be
  the first generation to die before their parents.
  
• Within the London Thames Gateway are some of the
  highest levels of STDs and unplanned pregnancies.
• We have some of the lowest levels of physical
  activity resulting in some of the highest levels
  of stroke and cardiovascular conditions. We are
  working in partnership with Pro Active East to
  stimulate a 1 increase (15,288 individuals) in
  engaging in physical activity.

• Dementia levels within the UK total 600,000.
  Within the LTG area the levels are broadly within
  the national average. However, the overall total
  is likely to double within the next 30 years. To
  ensure that LTG levels do not follow this
  projected increase we are seeking to develop
  early intervention, early diagnosis and early
  treatment.

• 3. Achieve a lasting health legacy inspired by
  the 2012 Games
• LTG boroughs are in the bottom 22 of
  participation in physical activity across London.
  We are supporting NHS London in their ambition,
  inspired by the Olympics, to move 2 million
  inactive people across London into an active and
  healthy lifestyle.
