The Blue Ring Octopus
  • Hapalochlaena lunulata
  • Most Venomous octopus
  • About 8 inches across if the arms are spread out
  • Found in. Australia!!!
  • Blue rings only light up as a warning to others

  • Carries enough poison to kill about 20 adults in
    minutes
  • Delivers the poison through its saliva
  • Uses its powerful beak to deliver a deadly bite
    with paralyzing neurotoxin

Onset of nausea.  Hazy Vision. ( Within seconds
you are blind.) Loss of sense of touch, speech
and the ability to swallow.  Within 3 minutes,
paralysis sets in and your body goes into
respiratory arrest.

  • Found in the South Pacific and Indian oceans.
  • In particular near the great barrier reef

  • Open during the day to receive sunlight

    feeding
  • Have hooks and circular saw like suckers on them
  • Hooks have ability to rotate

Vampire Squid
  • Found in deep deep waters (3000m)
  • Covered with photophores that it can turn on or
    off to remain invisible in the dark water
  • Although its only about 6 inches long has large
    eyes (largest by ratio of any animal)
  • Resembles a jellyfish more than a squid
  • Has sharp toothlike structures that cover its
    tentacles
  • One pair of these tentacles can extend to 2 times
    the length of the creature to capture food

  • Can wrap its tentacles around its body to form a
    spiny web of protection
  • LACKS ink sack, instead has amazing speed
  • Ability to go up to 2 body lengths per second
  • Also can manuver extremely well for being very
    gelatinous
