Big Blue Marble
  • My question
  • Did the earthquake in Chile (8.8 on the Richter
scale) have any correlation to the minor
earthquake (2.6 on the Richter scale) that was
here in Gladstone, NJ or to the one in Haiti (7.0
    on the Richter scale)?
  • How I found my anecdotal answer
  • NYTimes.com (for locations and dates)
  • Google Earth for location with longitude
  • Wikipedia for date/time and longitude
  • How I shared what I found
  • Twitter
  • Facebook

What is the INCLUDE Grant?
  • The Implementing New Curricular Learning with
    Universally Designed Experiences (INCLUDE)

5
What is the INCLUDE Grant?
  • The INCLUDE grant four-phase project (2007-2011)
focuses on the creation or expansion of an
inclusive classroom to ensure all students in the
general education classroom including those with
    mild to moderate disabilities, struggling
students and English language learners are
provided with the necessary accommodations in the
general mathematics classroom that will support
their achievement of the Core Curriculum Content
    Standards.  (NJDoE)

What is UDL
  • Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a
theoretical framework developed by the Center for
Applied Special Technology (CAST) to guide the
development of curricula that are flexible and
    supportive of all students. (http//cast.org)

7
Principles of the Universal Design for Learning
Framework
  • Principle 1 To support recognition learning,
    provide multiple, flexible methods of
    presentation.
  • Principle 2 To support strategic learning,
provide multiple, flexible methods of expression
    and apprenticeship.
  • Principle 3 To support affective learning,
provide multiple, flexible options for engagement.

Why UDL?
  • Critical to successfully implementing UDL theory
is the use of digital materials. Digital
    materials, unlike the conventional pedagogical
mainstays, speech, printed text, and printed
images, have an inherent flexibility. They can be
modified in a host of ways, depending on the
needs of the student. This flexibility makes it
feasible to customize learning materials and
    methods to each individual.
