SCRIPTURAL COMMAND
  • M Our Lord Jesus Christ says All authority in
heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptising them in the name of the Father and of
the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them
to obey everything I have commanded you. And
surely I am with you always, to the very end of
    the age.

18
ADDRESS
  • M The word of God teaches that we are born
sinful and unclean, but God washes us clean in
the waters of baptism, and we are born again as
his children. Through baptism our heavenly Father
forgives us our sins and unites us with our Lord
Jesus Christ, so that we share in his death and
resurrection. And the Holy Spirit renews us and
    gives us eternal life.

even though you put him to death on a cross.

46
Acts 214a,36-41
  • 37When the people heard this, they were very
upset. They asked Peter and the other apostles,

the name of Jesus Christ, so that your sins will
    be forgiven.

47
Acts 214a,36-41
  • Then you will be given the Holy Spirit. 39This
promise is for you and your children. It is for
everyone our Lord God will choose, no matter
    where they live."
  • 40Peter told them many other things as well.

48
Acts 214a,36-41

SECOND READING
  • R The second reading is written in Chapter one
of First Peter beginning at verse seventeen.
  • 1 Peter 117-23 CEV
  • Set free by the sacrifice of Christ

56
1 Peter 117-23
  • 17You say that God is your Father, but God
doesn't have favourites! He judges all people by
    what they do.
  • So you must honour God while you live as
    strangers here on earth.
  • 18You were rescued from the useless way of life
that you learned from your ancestors.

57
1 Peter 117-23
  • But you know that you were not rescued by such
things as silver or gold that don't last forever.
19You were rescued by the precious blood of
Christ, that spotless and innocent lamb.
  • 20Christ was chosen even before the world was
created, but because of you, he did not come
    until these last days.

58
1 Peter 117-23
  • 21And when he did come, it was to lead you to
have faith in God, who raised him from death and
honoured him in a glorious way.
  • That's why you have put your faith and hope in
God. 22You obeyed the truth, and your souls were
    made pure.

59
1 Peter 117-23
  • Now you sincerely love each other. But you must
keep on loving with all your heart. 23Do this
because God has given you new birth by his
    message that lives on forever.
  • This is the Word of the Lord.
  • C Thanks be to God.

60
GOSPEL
C Glory to You, O Lord, raised to live
forever.
C Glory to You, O Lord, raised to live
forever.
M The Holy Gospel is written in chapter twenty
four of the Gospel according to St Luke beginning
at verse thirteen. C Glory to You, O Lord,
raised to live forever.
61
Luke 2413-35 CEV
  • 13That same day two of Jesus' disciples were
going to the village of Emmaus, which was about
    seven miles from Jerusalem.
  • 14As they were talking and thinking about what
had happened, 15Jesus came near and started
walking along beside them. 16But they did not
    know who he was.

62
Luke 2413-35 CEV
  • 17Jesus asked them, "What were you talking about
    as you walked along?"
  • The two of them stood there looking sad and
gloomy. 18Then the one named Cleopas asked
Jesus, "Are you the only person from Jerusalem
who didn't know what was happening there these
    last few days?

63
Luke 2413-35 CEV
  • 19"What do you mean?" Jesus asked.
  • They answered Those things that happened to
Jesus from Nazareth. By what he did and said he
showed that he was a powerful prophet, who
pleased God and all the people.

64
Luke 2413-35 CEV
  • 20Then the chief priests and our leaders had him
arrested and sentenced to die on a cross.
  • 21We had hoped that he would be the one to set
Israel free! But it has already been three days
    since all this happened.

65
Luke 2413-35 CEV
  • 22Some women in our group surprised us. They had
gone to the tomb early in the morning 23but did
not find the body of Jesus. They came back,
saying that they had seen a vision of angels who
told them that he is alive.
  • 24Some men from our group went to the tomb and
found it just as the women had said. But they
    didn't see Jesus either.

66
Luke 2413-35 CEV
  • 25Then Jesus asked the two disciples, "Why can't
you understand? How can you be so slow to believe
all that the prophets said? 26Didn't you know
that the Messiah would have to suffer before he
    was given his glory?

67
Luke 2413-35 CEV
  • 27Jesus then explained everything written about
himself in the Scriptures, beginning with the Law
of Moses and the Books of the Prophets. 28When
the two of them came near the village where they
were going, Jesus seemed to be going farther.

68
Luke 2413-35 CEV
  • 29They begged him, "Stay with us! It's already
late, and the sun is going down." So Jesus went
into the house to stay with them.
  • 30After Jesus sat down to eat, he took some
bread. He blessed it and broke it. Then he gave
    it to them.
  • 31At once they knew who he was, but he
    disappeared.

69
Luke 2413-35 CEV
  • 32They said to each other, "When he talked with
us along the road and explained the Scriptures to
us, didn't it warm our hearts?"
  • 33So they got right up and returned to Jerusalem.
The two disciples found the eleven apostles and
    the others gathered together.

70
Luke 2413-35 CEV
  • 34And they learned from the group that the Lord
was really alive and had appeared to Peter.
35Then the disciples from Emmaus told what
happened on the road and how they knew he was the
Lord when he broke the bread.
  • This is the Gospel of the Lord
  • C Praise to You, O Lord, raised to live forever.

71
PRAYER AFTER THE GOSPEL

Lord of all hopefulness
  • 1. Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy,
  • whose trust, ever childlike, no cares could
    destroy
  • Be there at our waking and give us, we pray,
  • your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at the break of
    the day.

Lord of all hopefulness
  • 2. Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith,
  • whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and
    the lathe
  • Be there at our labours and give us, we pray,
  • your strength in our hearts, Lord, at the noon of
    the day.

111
Lord of all hopefulness
  • 3. Lord of all kindliness, Lord of all grace,
  • your hands swift to welcome, your arms to
    embrace
  • Be there at our homing and give us, we pray,
  • your love in our hearts, Lord, at the eve of the
    day.

112
Lord of all hopefulness
  • 4. Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm,
  • whose voice is contentment, whose presence is
    balm
  • Be there at our sleeping and give us, we pray,
  • your peace in our hearts, Lord, at the end of the
    day.
