Title: Transportation
1Transportation in Ibaraki
2Its not like Tokyo.
3The End.
4Oh dear, now that my idiosyncratic attempt at
comedy is over I suppose Ill actually have to
speak.
5Shit.
6OK, OK, well start with cars
- Car kuruma / ?
- Pages. 21-22
7Two Types of Japanese Car
8The Basics
- WHITE PLATE

- Considerably more expensive
- Purchasing price
- Shaken (pg. 22)
- Insurance
- YELLOW PLATE
- Also called a kei car.
- Pretend engine, usually installed in mopeds and
wind-up chattering teeth. - Will simply disintegrate upon collision with
another car. - Cheap!
9Licenses (page 21)
- International
- Only for your first year
- Only obtainable in your home country
- Japanese
- Many required documents.
- Extremely difficult driving test for certain
nationalities. - Basically a big pain in the arse, but 100
necessary if you cant have an international
license.
10Pass Nicks Driving Test!
CONGRATULATIONS! If you're British, you can
drive in Japan!
In which direction is this arrow pointing?
What colour is this dot?
11ZERO TOLERANCE!!!
- The alcohol limit for drivers is ZERO.
- The alcohol limit for cyclists is ZERO.
- Passengers can be charged if they are in the car
with a drunk driver. - Random checks DO HAPPEN, and as a foreigner you
are considerably more likely to be pulled over.
12Speeding
- Speed limit is absurdly low, and virtually no
drivers stick to it. However, speeding is an
offence. - Recently police activity has upped a bit - be
careful!
13What happens if you commit a driving offence?
- MASSIVE fines - 18,000? (speeding) or 500,000?
(drink driving) - Say bye-bye to the JET programme.
- You bring JET into bad repute and everyone hates
you.
