Inserting Symbols or Special Characters
  • You can insert symbols into your document
  • a) math operators (Like or ?)
  • b) Greek letters (like ? or O)
  • c) or fun characters (like ?)
  • To insert symbols
  • 1) Under the Insert menu, choose Symbol. You
    will see a long list of symbols
  • 2) Click on the symbol you want
  • 3) Click on insert
  • 4) The symbol will be inserted after the cursor

Inserting Pictures
  • You can insert a picture into your document
  • a) pictures that you have saved
  • b) free clipart from Microsoft
  • To insert a picture
  • 1) Under the Insert menu, choose Picture.
  • 2) Choose
  • a) From File, if you have a saved picture
  • b) Clip Art to look at free clip art

Headers and Footers
  • If you want to have text at the top or bottom of
    pages in your document, use a header or footer.
  • Headers are at the top of a page
  • Footers are at the bottom of a page
  • Common headers
  • last name of author
  • page number
  • Common footers
  • footnotes
  • page number
  • date last updated

  • To add or edit a header or footer Under the View
    menu, choose Header and Footer
  • A toolbar will appear that allows you to add page
    number, date, etc. automatically.
  • You can also type any text that you want.

Tables
  • Create simple tables in Word.
  • If you are creating a more complex table that you
    want to later create a graph or chart from, use
    Excel instead
  • To create a table in Word, you can either
  • 1) draw a table
  • 2) insert a table

Drawing a Table
  • Allows you to draw with an electronic pencil. You
    draw the rows and columns.
  • To draw a table
  • 1) Under the Table menu, choose Draw Table
  • 2) A toolbar opens and the cursor turns into a
    pencil
  • 3) Drag the pencil across the document to draw
    the outside border of the table
  • 4) From the outside borders, draw the rows and
    columns.

Inserting a Table
  • Word automatically creates a table with the
    number of rows and columns that you specify.
  • To insert a table
  • 1) Under the Table menu, choose Insert then
    choose Table.
  • 2) Enter the number of rows and columns that you
    want in your table.
  • 3) Click OK.
