Ong Tao Festival
  • Ong Tao is a kitchen god. It is believed that a
    god is watching a family. Every family has
    one. On the 23 day of the last lunar month the
    god gives a report to the Jade Emperor about the
    familys activities in the past year When the
    new god comes they burn gold colored paper, give
    the family altar new things, and clean the house.

Tet
  • Tet is New Years day. This festival is
    celebrated on the first day of the lunar year.
    Its called every ones birthday. If you were
    born an hour before Tet, the next hour you would
    be 2 years old. It is the biggest festival in
    Vietnam.

Tet food
  • Dried fruit, candied vegetables, spring rolls,
    and fresh fruit are found at the table on
    Vietnamese New Years Day.

Ho Lim Festival
  • The village of Lim plays music and sings songs on
    the festival of Ho Lim. People train months in
    advance to perform at the festival. Music never
    stops until late in the night.

Hung Temple Festival
  • This festival is celebrated for the anniversary
    of the birth of their ancestors. The Hung Temple
    has a Buddhist pagoda named the Thien Quang
    pagoda. It is famous for its big bell towers. It
    is located near Hanoi. It is here were the
    mythical Lady Au Co gave birth to a 100 eggs that
    became the first people of Vietnam. The festivals
    begin on the tenth day of the third month of the
    lunar year. 1000 years ago the festival began
    with the unicorn dance.

Tet Trung Thu
  • This festival is the harvest festival. This is
    like Halloween! This is a favorite festival of
    the children of Vietnam. Children sing to the
    beat of drums. Children play the drums. Candles
    and lanterns are held by children to light the
    way. Lanterns come in many different shapes and
    sizes. You might see a skateboard one! Children
    get candies, toys, and fruit. (fruit!!!!!!!!)

Water Puppets
  • In North Vietnam water puppets are very popular.
    Water Puppets are usually performed on a pond
    stage. At night you watch the shadows of the
    water puppets on a curtain. On festivals days you
    can see them.
