Kangaroos

2
Joeys ?
  • Joeys are baby kangaroos. They are 1 inch when
born. They spend 6-8 months in their mothers
    pouch.

3
Their Enemies ?
  • Dingoes are wild dogs that also live in
    Australia.
  • When they try to attack kangaroos, the kangaroo
finds the nearest lake, pond, or ocean. Then, the
kangaroo grabs hold of one dingo and pushes him
under water with his legs. If there are two, he
pushes the other down with his paws.

4
Size
  • Adult male kangaroos can be 6 feet tall, and up
to 100 pounds. Adult female kangaroos can be 4 ½
feet tall, and weigh less than 60 pounds.

5
Hopping
  • Did you know that kangaroos can hop over 6 foot
obstacles? They can also jump 29 feet at full
speed. The record is 44 feet in one hop though.

6
Mobs
  • Mobs are groups that kangaroos form. They are
not angry mobs, but mobs that they form when they
want to eat or drink in groups.

7
What are they?
  • Kangaroos are triple M. they are that because
they are mammals, marsupials, and macropodids.
Being a mammal means that they have fur and do
not lay eggs. Being a marsupial means they have
pouches and give birth to an extremely
undeveloped offspring. Being a macropodid means
    they have big legs.

8
Laws
  • In most areas, there are laws that you cant
kill kangaroos because they are endangered. That
means there isnt very much more of that species
left in the world. But in some places, they can
    still kill them.

9
Legends
  • An ancient aboriginal tale said that a big
tornado came, and blew these creatures up to the
sky. They tried so hard to touch the ground, that
their legs grew longer. When they finally touched
the ground, they hopped away to Australia. And
that, by the legend, is how kangaroos came to be.

10
Body
  • Their heads are small, deer-like, and they have
a pointed snout. Their ears are large and
upright. They can turn their ears from front to
    back.
