What is the mission of WWW.ONE.ORG?

• If we build the political will to change policies
  that affect billions of dollars in international
  aid and development , we can make a much bigger
  difference through our collective voice than
  through our individual donations
• ONE is about building the political will to end
  hunger and to make poverty history we hope that
  youll give your time and your voice toward that
  goal

  that talks about WHAT IS POSSIBLE!

• Whether we are aware of the agreements we live
  within or not, we do live in a world of
  agreements
  
• It could be said that extreme poverty, hunger and
  HIV/AIDS are all agreements that are tolerated by
  the world at large
  
• The greatest impact you can have is taking a
  stand and adding your voice to the millions that
  say, NOW is the Time for the END OF POVERTY!

HUNGER

• Around the world, ONE person in seven goes to bed
  hungry each night. We need to address hunger not
  just by giving food, but helping farmers in poor
  countries grow better crops and helping countries
  build farm-to-market roads so farmers can supply
  distant cities.

AIDS

• More than 38 million people around the world are
  infected by HIV/AIDS, 25 million in Africa alone.
  Left untreated, AIDS leads to an early death for
  people in their most production years who are
  needed to raise crops and families, teach school
  and care for the sick

EXTREME POVERTY

• Extreme poverty means living on less the 1 a
  day. Unimaginable to us as Americans. ONE in
  five people around the world survive on this
  amount, with few opportunites to earn more

EDUCATION

• Parents in Malawi know just as well as parents in
  Texas that education is crucial to their
  childrens future. But around the world, 104
  million children do not go to school, because
  their parents cannot afford fees, books or
  uniforms

ORPHANS

• 18 million children have already lost one or both
  parents to AIDS, 12 million of them are in Africa
  alone. Unless more is done, there will be 25
  million of these children around the world by
  2010. We have the opportunity to help!

CORRUPTION

• While corruption is harmful to all governments,
  losing resources to corrupt leaders is
  particularly devastating in poor countries where
  every dollar lost results in one less child in
  school or one less well dug to provide clean
  water.

• 1993 Civil War Breaks Out
• Fled Civil War to Congo
• Back and forth with Parents
• Then Lived with Sister
• 1995 Civil War Breaks Out in Congo
• Between Congoses and Banyamurenge
• Held Hostage by Burundi Rebels about 3 days
• 1995 Red Cross Orphanage in Zambia
• Walked from Congo and it took about 3 months
• 1996-1998 Refugee Camp in Zambia
• 1999 - UNCHR Gave money for Education
• Used that Money to Travel to Capital of Zambia,
  Lusaka
  
• Family adobts
• Friend made during that time helped find Uncle in
  US
  
• Uncle brings Kibwana to the US
• 2000 - Houston
