  through southern North America

• The area of present-day Mexico City was a large,
  developed, agricultural city with elite rulers,
  temples, pyramids, and regular human sacrifice.
  
• Population estimates range from 13-100 million,
  with most living in the highland civilizations of
  Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador.

• There remain substantial native Indian
  populations in some Latin American countries such
  as Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Mexico, but the
  Indian populations declined substantially during
  the period of colonization. Why?
