  our Bad Hair XI I couldn't look past David
  Seaman. Once he grew that ponytail he was just
  asking to be the butt of football jokes. Dave's
  'porno star' look was even blamed for England's
  exit from the 02 World Cup!

Abel Xavier - Portugal

• Japan South Korea 02 Ex-Liverpool star Abel
  Xavier sports a hair/beard combo that not even
  the bravest fashion victims would fall for. More
  care could be taken with the beard a dubious
  mixture of bleach blonde and his natural colour.

Javier Margas - Chile

• France 1998 This is obviously the kind of
  thing that happens when footballers have too much
  time on their hands after training and they start
  dyeing each other's hair. Can there be any other
  explanation?

• Japan South Korea 02 Taribo has sported
  enough different haircuts to make even David
  Beckham jealous. At least he's co-ordinated the
  colours with those of his national team which
  shows this man clearly takes his hair very
  seriously.

  the Manchester baggie scene of the late 80s, this
  is a look you can get for a fiver at your local
  barbers. 'Number one on the back and sides

  Germany, Fernando is guaranteed to be a star with
  this barnet. At the tender age of 22, one can
  only hope that he grows out of this look before
  that mullet gets any further down his back.

• Mexico 86 Valderrama could be spotted anywhere
  on the pitch because of the sheer size of his
  hair. Despite not doing a fat lot he became one
  of the stars of 86 and his legend continues to
  grow, and grow, and grow...

• A classic bowl cut for Gary Lineker's striking
  partner in the 86 finals, Peter wins his place in
  our XI on the basis that he just can't be
  bothered to have a style. A throwback to the days
  when footballers didn't fancy themselves so much!

Claudio Caniggia - Argentina

• Italy 90 / USA 94
• Look at Claudio now and you'd think he blends in
  well with the Argentina squad of 02, most of whom
  sported the same look. It's all about being first
  on the scene though and for that Claudio, we
  salute you! 12 years ahead of your time.

Chris Waddle - England

• Italy 90
• For England fans there's only one thing worse
  than Waddle's spiky-on-the-top mullet and that's
  his penalty shoot-out miss in the 90 semi-final.
  Funnily enough that was his first game since
  having his mullet chopped off.

• Japan South Korea 02 Oh dear! Why, with
  millions of eyes locked on his every move, would
  the most famous footballer on the planet get a
  haircut like this? A shortfall of cash is an
  unlikely excuse for Ronaldo's half finished botch
  job.
