2
My Heritage
  • I am a white femalehalf Italian, half Irish and
French. I was born in the north and raised in the
south. I would say it is an advantage that I have
lived in both the north and the south because I
    can relate to both people.

3
Family Background
  • My familys SES is middle to upper class.
Fortunately, for as long as I have been alive, my
family has never really had a struggle
financially. My dad has always been able to
successfully support our family. Not having a
financial problem in my life has affected me in
way such that it has made life much easier.
Although people may not admit that money is
extremely important, it is, and having it makes
    life more enjoyable.

4
Me and Minorities
  • Throughout my life I have had much more
contact with white people than people of
minorities. However, at a young age I had
African-American friends and I still do. Race is
not a problem for me. The color of someones
skin just does not seem like a logical reason not
to like them. I love learning about people from
different countries and backgrounds. College has
really allowed me to come into contact with
diverse people and cultures, which I find
    extremely intriguing.

5
Is Sexual Preference an Issue?
  • So many people I know and have heard have huge
problems with gays and lesbians. Personally, I
really dont have an issue with gays and
lesbians. I feel that people are free to date or
associate with whomever the prefer. I have never
had a close friend that was gay or lesbian, so I
dont know first hand how I would react to it.
However because I am a Christian I do not believe
gays should be married, or at least not in a
    church.

6
Am I Girlie?
  • Throughout my life, most of my friends have been
male. However, as I have grown older and had
boyfriends, I have hung out with girls more
often. I would say I am pretty girlie due to the
fact that I care greatly about my appearance and
wear makeup and such. I do have some male traits
thoughI like to fish, hangout with guys rather
than girls, and sometimes just drink beer and
    watch football.

7
Factors of Influence
  • Being a white female with money, and living in
the south has had a huge impact on who I am
today. Fortunately, life has been pretty easy
for me I am not a minority, not poor, not fat,
not sick, etc. The role these previous factors
have played in life is what makes me who I am.

8
Who Am I?
  • I see myself as kind at times, loving,
    affectionate, caring, sometimes crazy, fun,
    family-oriented, truthful, hard-working,
    outgoing, gregarious, maternal, Christian.
  • I see others as people just like me. However, I
think I am better than some and some are better
than me. I am judgmental at first, but I really
make an effort to try to see people for who they
are and not what they look like.
  • I think people view me as an overall good person.
However, when someone first meets me they may
think I am rude because I am so sarcastic and
blunt. But when people really get to know me,
they would realize I am a great person.

9
Assignment Impact
  • This assignment has really encouraged me to dig
deep and look at myself, how I became this
person, and who I am now. This project has
showed me that my life is really good and has
been, and I am so blessed for that. I have
acknowledged that due to the fact I have not had
a lot of experience with people/children from
diverse backgrounds, it may be an issue for me as
a teacher. However, I am only in my first
education class and I have learned a lot about
diverse backgrounds. I have also learned a lot
from the teacher that I observe this semester.
Her class has a variety of cultures Jew,
Christian, Mexican, Jehovah's witness, poor, and
rich. I think just being her class and watching
these students and how she associates with them
will assist me when I become a teacher.
