Objective learn how to manipulate digital images
using MS Paint

• Standards

• C/T 6-8.9 The student will use a variety of

analysis, including the ability to a)     
identify and interpret primary and secondary

1877 b)      make connections between the past
and the present c)      sequence events in
United States history from pre-Columbian times to
1877 d) interpret ideas and events from
different historical perspectives

Procedure

• Step 1 Show Students examples of what they will
  be doing.
• Step 2 Show students how to access the image
  resources you listed on your Portaportal.
• Step 3 Students are to find and save
  appropriate backgrounds.
• Step 4 Take student pictures with a digital
  camera (or have students bring pictures from home
  that can be scanned). Students should pose in a
  manner to match their backgrounds.

Procedure

• Step 5 Open MS Paint Start/Programs/Accessorie
  s/Paint
• Step 6 Show students how to open their digital
  image. File/Open/Navigate to student
  folder/select picture.This file will be in jpg
  format.
• Step 7 Students must now save the picture as a
  BMP File/Save As name the picture (your first
  name BMP cut) in order to erase around the
  picture cleanly.

You will have 2 copies saved

Procedure

• Step 8 Use the select tools to erase the large
  sections around your image.

Procedure

• Step 9 Use the erase tool and the pencil tool
  (white color) to erase the rest of your image.

Clicking the Zoom tool will help you erase at the
pixel level with your pencil tool.

Procedure

• Step 10 When you have finished erasing, select
  a color and use the Fill Tool to color in the
  background you have just erased.

Click the Zoom tool again to erase those bits
that stand out.

Procedure

• Step 11 Change the fill color back to white and
  change your background back to white. SAVE your
  work! (File/Save)

• Step 12 Select your image with the select tool.
  Click the invisible attribute button. Go to Edit
  and Select Copy.

• Step 13 Go to File/Open and select one of your
  backgrounds.

• Step 14 Go to Edit/Paste to insert your image!

• Step 15 While your picture is still selected
  you can move and/or resize your image.

To resize Go to Image and select Stretch and
Skew

Procedure

• Step 16 Type in a number less than 100 in both
  the Horizontal and Vertical to reduce your image
  size.

• Step 17 Repeat the steps to put your image into
  other back grounds.

• Step 17 Cut out a portion of your picture.

You can animate your images using an animation
program like Serif Draw Plus. You will have to
export them as an animated gif file so they can
play in PowerPoint or on your webpage.

Check out the Founding Fathers animation by
JibJab. Can you figure out how this was done? You
can do something similar using the same tools.
