8Life at college things you need to know
- Youre an adult now. That means its up to you
to attend your classes, study and get your
assignments in on time. - College uses a semester system. Semesters are 15
weeks long. Youll be covering a lot of material
in each class and going quickly. Be prepared for
the pace. To succeed, you need to start working
in each course from day one.
9More things you need to know
- Youll receive a midterm assessment in late
October. It will give you an idea of how you are
progressing in your courses. It will warn you if
there are problems while there is still time to
get help. - After the 15-week semester, you will have your
final, permanent grades for that semester.
10The formula for success
- Theres a formula for doing well at CEGEP. If
you make sure you do 1 hour of study or homework
for each hour of class or labs in your schedule,
you should do very well.
11Course Outlines
- In each of your courses your teacher will give
you a Course Outline. - This will give you essential information on the
course you are taking. It is a contract between
you and your teacher. - Here is an example of a Course Outline

- Leave a message on your teachers voice mail or
try to reach the teacher by another method. - Bring a detailed doctors note to show your
teacher and to give to academic advising when you
return.
17What if your class is cancelled?
- There are television monitors in the college that
will show you if your class has been cancelled.
Be sure to look at them every day. - You can also check the college website or check
through your cell phone.
18How old are you?
- By Quebec law if you are 18, you are entitled to
your privacy. - Nevertheless, you should keep your parents or
legal guardians informed about your progress in
your program.
19Should you have a job while youre a student at
Champlain St. Lambert?
- Yes, but be careful.
- Students who work more than 12 to 15 hours per

difficulties. - Working less than 15 hours a week gives you
spending money, time management skills,
worthwhile experience and a sense of
responsibility.
