Egypt

• In 1799 Napoleon was fighting the British in
  Egypt. The British destroyed the French naval
  forces and Napoleon abandoned the army.
• He got back to France
• In Paris people cheered for him

Becoming Emperor

• In 1799 Napoleon and some other leaders took
  control of the government by force
• 1804 Napoleon became Emperor of France
• He was the dictator
• In 1802 he named himself Consul for life

The Battle of Trafalgar

• In 1805 Napoleons fleet went to invade Britain
  but off the coast of Spain the British Admiral
  Lord Nelson defeated him.

Continental System

• Napoleon told all the European countries not to
  trade with Great Britain after Trafalgar
• Nelson countered by telling him

• that any ship on its way to the European port
  had to stop at Great Britain first
• One of the causes of the War of 1812

Napoleonic Empire

• Napoleon became king of Italy, and his brother
  became king of Naples
• Nationalism caused revolts
• In 1812 the Spanish aided by the British
  overthrew their French king aided by the British
• Russia traded with Great Britain again

Invading Russia

• Napoleon got mad and invaded Russia.
• Russians retreated to central Russia and used a
  scorched earth plan.
• Winter came and many soldiers died the Russian
  attacked the soldiers

  Napolean at Leipzig in Saxony

• Napoleon is exiled to the island of Elba
• He escapes but gets captured again after he is
  defeated at the Battle of Waterloo.

Waterloo

• The French army fought the British and Prussian
  army at Waterloo
• The first attack of the French failed so the
  cavalry attacked but Ney had to abandon them
  after the conflict
• After the Prussians were thrown back Napoleon
  tried to attack again
• That did not work
• Grouchy didnt come
• Napoleon didnt win

• Napoleon was exiled to Saint Helena
• He didnt escape
• He died there in 1821
