Title: Cheetahs and Bats
1Cheetahs and Bats
By Rhiannon MCglone
2With their long legs and springy backbones,
cheetahs can take very long steps, and they can
cover a lot of ground.
3When moving at top speed, a cheetah can cover as
many as 20 feet in one stride!
4A cheetahs claws work like the cleats on a track
shoe.
They dig into the ground as the cheetah pushes
off and help it to build up speed fast.
5After making a kill, cheetahs usually drag prey
into the shade of a bush or a tree. But they
dont eat it right away.
They must catch their breath first!
6After a hard chase, even the hungriest cheetah
may need to rest for up to 30 minutes before
eating.
7The largest bat in the world weighs about 2
pounds and has a wingspan of 6 feet.
8The smallest bat in the world is the size of a
bumblebee.
It weighs less than a penny.
9When flying, bats can reach altitudes of 10,000
feet!
10If the winds are right, they can go as fast as 60
miles per hour!
11Many bats form nursery colonies to care for their
young.
When the mothers go out to hunt, the babies
cluster together to stay warm.
