(River). The two rivers meet at a point to the
east of the city.

world when the Three Gorge Dam is completed in

Night Raining on the Ba Mountains
Owing to an annual rainfall of about l,000
millimetres concentrated primarily on nights from
May to October, the air humidity is often as high
as over 80 percent, so the weather conditions are
often cloudy and misty. The Average high in

Peoples Assembly Hall- An architectural symbol
of Chongqing, the hall was built in 1951 and
designed in the traditional symmetrical and
beautifully-proportioned style of Ming and Qing
dynasties' palaces. The hall contains a 4000-seat
auditorium.

The Liberation Monument Square

Peoples Liberation Monument 27.5 meters high
and central to the Jeifangbai commercial shopping
area.

Scheduled Stop Dazu Grotto Carvings

Dazu Grottoes are located in Dazu county of
Chongqing They include the over 60,000 figures
scattered in more than 100 places carved in the
Tang Dynasty (618-907) and Song Dynasty
(960-1279).

The carvings not only include the statues of
Buddha and Bodhisattva but also include that of
monarchs, ministers, military officers, high and
low-ranking officials, jailers, executioners,
monks, rich and poor people, and folk art
performers.

There are more than 50,000 Buddhist, Taoist and
Confucian rock carvings and 100,000 characters of
inscriptions dotted around Dazu.

In 1999, UNESCO listed Dazu Stone Carvings as a
world cultural heritage site.

Dazu Grottoes are the only ones that were
implemented according to an overall design among
over 100 grottoes in China

The general term of "Dazu Rock Carvings" refers
to all the cliffside carvings in Dazu County,
which includes the carvings in Beishan (including
Beita), Baodingshan, Nanshan, Shizhuanshan and
Shimenshan.

Baoding Grotto, 15 kilometres northeast of the
county seat, is the largest and best preserved
site and a key cultural relic site under state
protection.

The Red Crag Village is the site of the Chongqing
Office of the Central Committee of the Communist
Party of China and the Eighth Route Army.

The construction work of the memorial museum
started in 1955, and in 1959, Mr. Dong Bi-Wu
named the museum, The Red Crag Revolutionary
Memorial Museum.

Zhou En-lai, Dong Bi-wu, Ye Jian-ying, Wang
Ruo-fei, Qin Bang-xian, Deng Ying-chao etc. lived
and fought here for a long time here during the
Chongqing Talks between KMT(the Nationalist
Party)and the Communist Party in 1945.

Cassia Garden Where negotiations took place
between the KMT and the Communist Party. The US
Ambassador Patrick Hurley also came to this area
after Japans 1945 surrender to facilitate peace
negotiations that lasted 42 days.

Kai-Shek lived during the war.

including the fossils of a dinosaur skeleton,
footprint, and eggs.

such as Zhang tea cooked duck, steamed carp,
marinated beef, and bean curd.

Chongqings 1 specialty is huoguo which means
(hot or fire pot). Raw meat and uncooked
vegetables are given to you to be cooked in hot
and spicy oil.
