Abstract
  • The purpose of this experiment is to see if
different kinds of music affect the amount of
time a hamster takes when going through a maze.
The hypothesis of this experiment is if classical
music is played as the hamster goes through the
maze, then the hamster will move through the maze
    faster.
  • Continue

3
Abstract
  • The procedure is to make two different
hamsters run through two different mazes using no
music or classical, rock, and jazz music. The
type of experiment will be conducted in a
research and field test. During the experiment,
    data will be recorded.

4
Background
  • There have been experiments in the past about
the effect of different kinds of music on
teenagers being tested in schools. These have
shown that classical music made the test scores
higher. When students listened to classical music
their test scores were better than when they did
not listen to any music at all.
  • Continue

5
Background
  • However, there has not been an experiment made
yet to see whether this is the same in animals,
and whether all kinds of music have the same
    effect on them.

6
Purpose
  • The purpose of doing this experiment is to see
if hamsters move and learn faster depending on
the type of music played or if no music is
played. This will give us an idea about the
ability of animals to learn and therefore an idea
of how humans learn as well.
  • Continue

7
Purpose
  • For example, if classical music makes a hamster
move and learn faster in a maze, maybe it does
the same to people. If it does have the same
effect on people, maybe schools should play
classical music in classes to make students
    concentrate.

8
Hypothesis
  • The hypothesis is that classical music will
make the two hamsters move and think faster in
the maze. If hamsters are affected by music then
they will go through the maze faster.

9
Materials
  • Two adult hamsters.
  • One box and cardboard sides to make a maze.
  • Scissors
  • CD player
  • Timer or clock
  • CD disks of types of music such classical, rock,
    and jazz.

10
Methodology/ Procedure
  • Buy two hamsters.
  • Make four cardboard mazes of the same difficulty
and place food at the end.
  • Playing
  • Step one. Test the first hamster in the maze with
no music on and measure the time it takes it to
go from the beginning to the end of the maze.
  • Record the time.
  • Continue

11
Methodology/ Procedure
  • Step two. Put on classical music and test the
first hamster on the second maze and write down
the time. Test the second hamster on the second
maze also using classical music and record the
    time.
  • Compare the results of step one and step two on
both hamsters and record the difference in time.

  • Continue

12
Methodology/ Procedure
  • Step three. Put on jazz music and test the
first hamster on the third maze and record the
time. Do the same with the second hamster.
  • Step four. Put on rock music and test the first
hamster on the fourth maze and record the time.
Do the same with the second hamster.

  • Continue

13
Methodology/ Procedure
  • Now compare the time difference when different
music was played and see which helped the hamster
    complete the maze the fastest.
