About the Outfitters White Wilderness Sled Dog
Adventures
Owner Peter McClelland (left) is a naturalist by
training and a musher by choice. Peter has many
years of experience guiding sled dog trips. He is
known for his exceptional ability to train
novices to drive a dog team. Peter is co-founder
of the Ely Area Mushing Association. The seasonal
staff of White Wilderness consists of the most
experienced dog drivers in the northwoods and
they are experts at winter travel. Throughout
your trip they will see to it that you are warm
and comfortable.

Wont I be cold?
  • You must be comfortable in order to enjoy a White
    Wilderness sled dog adventure. This is why you
    will receive a detailed list of clothing to
    bring. (Rental clothing is also available.)
  • We teach you how to keep warm and dry.
  • The first evening of the trip we will go through
    your clothes with you to make sure you have what
    you need to be comfortable.

What special clothes do I need?
  • A pamphlet entitled A Guide to Keeping Warm is
    provided to each participant.
  • This Guide includes a detailed description of the
    clothing you will need to bring.
  • Rental clothing is available.
  • Personal clothing (such as underwear, socks,
    hats, gloves and mittens) is not available for
    rent.

What if Im out of shape?
  • Mushing is not just for the rugged outdoors
    person.
  • People of any shape and size can enjoy the thrill
    of driving a team of sled dogs.
  • If you are out of shape, you will want to consult
    your physician before beginning any exercise
    regimen.
