2Where is Paris?
- Paris is located on the Seine River in
north-central France.
- Paris was first settled in the 3rd cent. BC by
the Parisii.
- Today, Paris is one of the most famous cities in
the world.

3A birds-eye view
- Paris is divided into 20 districts called
arrondissements
- The Louvre is located in the 1st, the Eiffel
Tower in the 7th and the Arc de Triomphe in the
8th.

4The Louvre Museum
- The Louvre Museum was formerly the palace of the
kings of France it is now one of the greatest
museums in the world.
- Over 800 years old, the Louvre palace is located
in the 1st arrondissement along the Seine River.

5From the Louvre to Notre Dame
- From the Palais Royal-Musée du Louvre metro stop,
take the yellow line two stops to Châtelet.
- Change to the brown line (Montparnasse Bienvenue)
and go one stop to Cité.

6The Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris
- One of the greatest gothic cathedrals in the
world, Notre Dame de Paris is located on the Ile
de la Cité in the Seine River.
- Begun in 1163, it took about 200 years to
complete.

7From Notre Dame to the Eiffel Tower
- From the Cité metro stop at Notre Dame Cathedral,
take the purple line (Porte dOrléans) two stops
to Odéon.
- Take the green line six stops to La Motte-Picquet
Grenelle.
- Take the blue line (Charles de Gaulle-Etoile) two
stops to Champs de Mars-Tour Eiffel.

8La Tour Eiffel
- The Eiffel Tower was designed by Gustave Eiffel
for the International Exhibition of Paris of
1889.
- Located in the 7th arrondissement, it is 300
meters tall and weighs 7000 tons.

9From the Eiffel Tower to the Arc de Triomphe
- From the Champs de Mars-Tour Eiffel metro stop,
take the blue line five stops to Place Charles de
Gaulle-Etoile.

10The Arc de Triomphe
- The Arc de Triomphe was dedicated in 1836 to
glorify the French army.
- It is located in the 8th arrondissement at the
Place Charles de Gaulle-Etoile.

11From the Arc de Triomphe to Sacré Coeur
- From the Place Charles de Gaulle-Etoile metro
stop, take the purple line eight stops to
Pigalle.
- Then take the orange line (Porte de la Chapelle)
one stop to Abbesses Butte Montmartre.

12Sacré Coeur
- The Basilica of Sacré Coeur was proposed after
the Franco-Prussian in 1870.
- It is located on Montmartre in the 18th
arrondissement.
