Title: Rituals of Christian Wedding
1A look at Significant Rituals of Christian Wedding
Synonymous to other weddings carried in different
religions, in Christians the relationship speaks
more about love, responsibility and mutual
understanding between the newly-wed boy and girl.
While most of the Hindu marriages follow almost
the same sequence of rituals, each sect of
Christianity has its own opinions and ways of
conducting the auspicious occasion. Before
understanding the customs during the wedding,
here are some covenant symbols that have been
followed by Christian families year after year.

2- The families and friends of the bride and the
groom are seated in the church on opposite
benches which flank the long center aisle. The
attendees epitomize partakers of the blood
covenant as mentioned in the scriptures of the
holy bible. It is firmly believed that the
witnesses have sacrificed in order to promise
their rights, and support as the boy and girl
unites together with mind and soul in the
marriage that is yet to happen.
- The center aisle symbolizes the meeting ground
where the blood covenant is established. The
white carpet rolled out in the aisle represents
the ground where both the girl and the boy have
united together.

3- The white wedding dress of the girl symbolizes
the pureness of heart and life and an honor and
profound respect to Christ. According to the
Bible, it also speaks about the righteousness of
God as it is imagined to drape the church in
clean and bright linen garment.

4Customs Before And During The Marriage
- The pre-wedding rituals include mainly the Bridal
Shower and a Bachelors party. While in the
Bridal Shower the bride is showered with gifs,
the groom enjoys his moments with a Bachelors
party. In some places such as Goa, these rituals
are also known as Ross. It involves pouring
coconut water and paste on the boy along with the
playing of gospel songs in the background.

5- As the family members guests are invited through
an eye appealing wedding invitation card into the
church, the custom of giving away the girl begins
with the father. Here, the father accepts the boy
to be his daughters would-be husband and showers
his blessings along with the girls mother as he
transfers his sole responsibility to the boy.
- Before this custom, the groom enters the church.
It represents the initiative of Christ to
establish the blood covenant.

6- On the arrival of the bride and the groom, the
praise and worship starts followed by the prayers
and the vows to be recited by the couple.
Scintillating wedding rings are then exchanged to
show that the boy and the girl would help each
other in every way during their married lives.
The nuptial is a registered marriage where the
couple has to sign a register for consent. Later
on, a letter endorsed by the authorities of the
church is sent forward to the Registrar of
Marriages living in and around the city. A letter
is essential for future records with such an
authorized person.
